40% of all food produced in the world is wasted. And that has a huge impact on the health of our planet, with 10% of greenhouse gas emissions coming from food waste.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Backend, to be a part of our Tech Foundation Team that defines, builds and delivers solutions to improve the core functionality used by all teams and the general Java backend developer experience. As a Team Member in the Foundation Team, you will work towards specific outcomes with the freedom and responsibility to figure out the best way to achieve them together with the other Engineers. You will be involved in all parts of the process when refining, designing, implementing, delivering and maintaining product features.

You will build and maintain various internal services, libraries and frameworks handling things like authentication and message queues, and help improve the general backend developer experience by improving things such as the build speed and process.

We expect you will develop, build and deliver international top-class functionality, ensuring quality, maintainability, and sustainability. Supported by other experienced colleagues who will guide, train and encourage you to push limits, and improve. We want to be proud of our work and focus more on quality than deadlines.

The Tech Stack

We have created a scalable Spring Boot Application running on Java 17 in Kubernetes, deployed in a multi-region setup in AWS. Developers are able to run a full development environment locally, which gives a great developer experience.

Responsibilities

Build and evolve our backend services and infrastructure to stay ahead of our growth curve. Develop exciting new features to make the developer experience better for you and other backend engineers. Actively participate in your team’s agile development processes with a continuous improvement mindset. Strive to deliver international top-class products with maximum quality, maintainability and scalability. Take on additional tasks outside your current boundaries with help from your team to continue to grow and expand your skills.

The ideal candidate

A wealth of experience in Backend development with the Java ecosystem. Proven production experience with Java, SpringBoot, MySQL, Message Systems & GIT. Has worked with Domain Driven Design, and Clean, or Hexagonal- Architecture. Deep knowledge of AWS services (SQS, SNS, S3…), ElasticSearch, Redis, GitHub Actions, Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with building scalable solutions. Enjoys actively participating in a cross-functional product team. Takes pride in writing quality code.
