You will be located at our brand-new Head Office in Nordhavn, as well as visiting our R&D site in Hadsund or Aalborg 2 - 3 days around every three weeks. You will report directly to the Director, Head of IP Karin.

Position overview:

This position works in a small global IPR team, with a focus on enhancing IPR globally, and supporting the European R&D sites. This role will make meaningful impacts on the strategic IPR direction of the organization. The IPR Attorney works closely with the R&D teams, and the Corporate Affairs organization, which consists of Group Legal, M&A, Compliance, and Regulatory. This role is for someone that thrives in an interdisciplinary environment and work effectively in close collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Responsibilities of an IP Attorney:

We value diverse perspectives and the unique contributions each team member brings. As an IP Attorney, you will play a pivotal role in protecting our innovations and supporting our mission to drive technological advancements:

  • Invention harvesting – Collaborate with R&D to find new inventions that are patentable and perform an initial interview with the R&D engineers to ensure that the necessary information is obtained and material for the patent application is created. Ensure that there are no issues regarding copyright or existing patent infringement.
  • Patent applications – Draft and prosecute patent applications directly with PCT/US authorities as well as work with outside patent counsels and take care of the following case process.
  • Patent analysis – Conduct patentability analyses, novelty searches, invalidity analyses, surveillance of competitors, freedom-to-operate investigations, and patent landscape analyses.
  • Patent portfolio management – Coordinate patent activities and Nilfisk’s patent and design portfolio through timely submission of all registrations and payment of fees. Ensure that corporation agreements and contracts are in place.
  • Patent law – Handle infringement assertations as well as training and education of employees in relation to patentability and freedom-to-operate within the area they work in.

    Need to have:

  • Technical degree: Master’s degree in electronic or mechanic engineering
  • Experience: 8-10+ years of experience working with Intellectual Property, patent application processes, and patent law, preferably, with experience from an external patent agency and/or IP department in international corporations
  • Knowledge of IP law: Understand the value of enterprise intellectual property and the law of its combination with brand protection and business operation.
  • Communication skills: Good written and verbal communication skills to work with all levels of stakeholders, including senior management, engineers/researchers, and patent agencies.
  • Language skills: Good in English reading, writing, and listening.

    Nice to have:

  • German Language skills: good proficiency in German; fluency is not required but a solid understanding and ability to read and understand German is advantageous.
  • Successful Track Record: Proven track record of successful patent prosecutions and IP litigation cases
  • Technical skills: We use Anaqua as our IP Management system, and it would be beneficial if you have some experience using IP Management systems, but it’s not required.
