CP Kelco is looking for our new Principal/Senior Scientist – Analytical Chemistry on carbohydrates

The Global Analytical & Methods Research team within Global R&D is looking for a passionate Principal or Senior Scientist with a strong interest in carbohydrates. The team executes research projects, manufacturing and customer supports by generating fundamental data packages for existing and future products in food & beverage, industrial and personal care applications. To provide such solutions, we use analytical chemistry (NMR, chromatography, LC-MS, IR, NIR), structural resolution, physical chemistry (particle sizing, surface characterization), rheology, chemometrics or a combination thereof.

This position is designed to elucidate structure-function relationships of products within/outside CP Kelco through application of analytical chemistry. The work typically includes, but not limited to, polysaccharide compositional studies, analysis of nature based extracted polymers, fermentation- and plant-derived products, competitive analysis, method development, and product troubleshooting. An analytical chemist with a strong background in carbohydrate polymers would be a perfect fit for this role.

The Global Analytical & Methods Research team is based in Atlanta and Lille Skensved, and the position is going to be based at CP Kelco in Lille Skensved, close to Copenhagen. In Lille Skensved, the group is composed of 5 people working closely together. We have active interactions with our sister department in Atlanta, USA, but also globally and locally with colleagues from Applications, Manufacturing, Quality, Legal, Regulatory and Marketing.

Key Responsibilities

With your deep scientific expertise within analytical chemistry and carbohydrate structure-function knowledge, you will support the characterization and development of new products as well as drive the development of new and improved methods on our different analytical instruments.

Your essential tasks include: Executing analytical chemistry analyses on existing and novel carbohydrate polymers products to elucidate structure-function relationships based on deep chemistry knowledge Being the analytical chemistry expert in project teams and providing both scientific input and data packages Developing & applying knowledge to implement and improve tools, techniques or work processes Selecting the best analytical method based on analytical expertise and chemical knowledge Providing hands-on troubleshooting on our analytical instruments Securing thorough documentation and reporting Collaborating with other departments within the organization Working on technical assignments with dynamic priority

Qualifications

Our preferred candidate is a team player that has a strong analytical chemistry background within the carbohydrate area, combined with solid NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, NIR and/or IR expertise, and is used to working with larger and complex data, and processing & modelling them.

You are professional, self-motivating and have some of the following qualifications:

PhD degree in chemistry, natural science, or related fields, combined with 5+ years post PhD work experience Solid background with carbohydrates, preferable with carbohydrate polymers In-depth experience in NMR, LC-MS, NIR, IR and/or HPLC Demonstrated track record of critical independent thinking, troubleshooting ability and using innovative & creative thinking to solve complex tasks and questions Able to work onsite in the lab located in Lille Skensved, Denmark Independent and self-driven work attitude and enjoys actively participating with work in the laboratories Enjoy working in close collaboration with your colleagues Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with changing priorities Ability to communicate conclusions and recommendations from complex data packages to a broad diverse audience Proficiency in instrument operation software and Microsoft Suite Fluent in oral and written English
