At DTU Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (DTU Construct), we are looking for a researcher in the field of advanced thermal sciences focusing on thermal management of electric vehicles and electronic devices, heat transfer enhancement of thermal systems, and analysis of thermal energy storage systems and thermo-mechanical energy storage technologies. 

The Section of Thermal Energy at the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering conducts scientific research in close collaboration with a number of industrial partners in the field of optimization of energy conversion systems with focus on the green transition of the energy system. The research covers, for example, thermal systems as units for power production, refrigeration, heat pumps, internal combustion engines, biomass utilization, energy storage and electric vehicles. The research involves advanced analysis, modelling and optimization of systems and components based on applied thermal-fluid methods. We seek a candidate with previous researcher/post-doc experience within the field of thermal management and thermal energy storage applications. 

Responsibilities and qualifications

The position will include multi-dimensional heat transfer modelling, optimization and experimentation in research fields related to advanced thermal systems consisting of the following: 

  • Electric vehicles and electronic devices
  • Sensible and latent heat thermal energy storage systems
  • Thermo-mechanical energy storage technologies 

The work will be based on numerical modelling and simulation of components, cycles and systems, and experiments carried out in the laboratory and at industrial facilities. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. The tasks will also include the development of novel research proposals in collaboration with partners in academia and industry. To cover these tasks, we expect you to have a strong profile in thermal sciences based on a mechanical engineering background. It is essential to have experience with conceptualization, modelling, design, optimization and feasibility studies of electric vehicles and energy storage systems and their components. Moreover, you need to have experience of the development of research proposals and have proven the ability to lead work on publication of recent research results in international scientific media. Teaching and supervision experience is a further requirement. You should have a high level of interpersonal skills and have a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team across both the education and service sectors.

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both. 

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
