Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioimaging and MINFLUX Microscopy

Found in: beBee S DK - 1 month ago

Odense, Denmark Syddansk Universitet Full time

Duration: 3 Years

Location: Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center (DaMBIC), Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Southern Denmark, Odense

Commencement Date: June 1st, 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

Group Leader: Professor Jonathan Brewer

Job Overview: Join us at the forefront of bioimaging innovation with MINFLUX microscopy, a technique that has revolutionized our ability to visualize molecular processes with nanoscale precision. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher for a 3-year postdoctoral position in bioimaging at the Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center (www.DaMBIC.dk). This opportunity focuses on pushing the boundaries of bioimaging using the state-of-the-art MINFLUX microscopy technique. The successful candidate will engage in pioneering research, exploring the details of RNA splicing from pre-mRNA to mRNA and imaging and post-translational modifications at a molecular level.

Project Background: MINFLUX (MINimal photon FLUXes) microscopy is a new groundbreaking super-resolution imaging technique that has revolutionized the field of bioimaging. It combines the principles of STED and PALM/STORM microscopy to achieve unprecedented resolution, of 1-2 nm This method allows for precise localization of fluorescent molecules with nanometer accuracy, making it an invaluable tool for studying complex biological systems at the molecular level.

In this project, the postdoctoral researcher will apply the capabilities of MINFLUX microscopy to multiple projects including to explore two critical areas of cellular biology: RNA splicing and post-translational modifications. RNA splicing, specifically the conversion of pre-mRNA to mRNA, is a vital process in eukaryotic gene expression, involving the intricate removal of introns and the joining of exons. Protein lipidation, a significant post-translational modification, plays an essential role in various cellular functions including signaling and protein trafficking. Using advanced labeling strategies, the successful candidate will conduct pioneering research to visualize and understand these processes at a molecular level, providing novel insights into cellular dynamics which offer a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact research.

Key Responsibilities:

Implementing and optimizing MINFLUX microscopy Conducting independent research to elucidate the dynamics of spliceosome-mediated RNA splicing and the role of lipid modifications in protein function. Support/collaborate on other MINFLUX related projects at DaMBIC. Contribute to interdisciplinary projects, utilizing a range of bioimaging techniques including MERFISH and STED microscopy.

Essential Qualifications:

PhD in Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Nanotechnology, Physics, Biochemistry, or a related field. Demonstrated interest in advancing bioimaging techniques. Prior experience in bioimaging. Proven track record of scientific publications. Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral. Collaborative and team-oriented mindset.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in preparing biological samples for microscopy. Knowledge of super-resolution optical microscopy techniques, such as STED, MINFLUX, or STORM. Experience in working with cell cultureing.

What We Offer:

An opportunity to work in DaMBIC, a leading imaging facility equipped with cutting-edge technology. A stimulating international environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, and professional growth across multiple fields. Access to a broad network within the scientific community for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Diversity Statement: The University of Southern Denmark is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive academic community. We strongly encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to ethnicity, gender, and disability.

Closing Statement: This is position represents an exceptional opportunity to be part of a pioneering research project that has the potential to make significant contributions to the field of bioimaging and molecular biology. We look forward to receiving your applications.

Application deadline: 15 April 2024 at 23:59 hours local Danish time
