The position
The Department of Food Science is seeking applications for a two-year academic employee (AC-TAP). The position includes scientific research support, as well as project management. The intended start date for this appointment is 1 July 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The candidate

The candidate is expected to:
Participate in project related activities, including meetings, presentations, and project reviewsAssist with day-to-day laboratory activities in advanced analytical measurements, i.e. analytical chromatography, rheology, scattering analysisTrain and assist students and other users in above analytical measurements techniquesCoordinate and manage projectsCollect, curate and analyze data, including statistical analysis, and assist with the interpretation of resultsDevelop methods to deliver on projectsDeliver a first draft of manuscript
The candidate will be a part of a team focusing on food chemistry and physics, colloid chemistry and processing.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have:A PhD degree in food science, chemistry or similarA solid understanding of analytical chemistry and understand of food ingredient interactions, especially related to biopolymer chemistryA strong background in instrumentation, instrument control software, and data collection as well as experience in implementation of advanced experiments.Some understanding of engineering approachesHands-on experience in maintenance and trouble-shooting of particular chromatography and scattering equipmentA basic understanding of the principles behind the above instrumental techniquesDocumented ability to edit, writing and submitting reports and research papers
The following is also considered beneficial:Ability to manage projects, manage timelinesOrganize meetings, coordinate and organize events, both in person and on lineAbility to clearly communicate research activities to peers, industry and pitch new project ideasA documented ability to manage product development projects and coordinate teamsA multidisciplinary approach to support successful delivery of research projects

The Department of Food Science

The Department of Food Science is part of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Aarhus University and includes research within the areas Biofunctional Food, Systems Biology, Food Chemistry and Physics, Food Processing, Food Metabolomics, Sensory Science and Plant Production. The Department currently employs 60 full time scientific staff, approx. 50 PhD students and Postdocs, plus approx. 30 visiting students and staff who together contribute to an international research environment where English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars.

The Department works in teams and therefore self-leadership, clear and open communication, success in mentoring, supervising and teaching are important qualities needed to be successful in the Department.
