Postdoc on Adipose Microvascular Dysfunction in Obesity

Odense, Odense Kommune, Denmark Syddansk Universitet Full time

Three year Novo Nordic Foundation funded Postdoc on adipose microvascular dysfunction in obesity

Are you curious to understand, and therapeutically target, gene circuits regulated by obesity-associated microRNAs in adipocytes and adipose endothelial cells in living mice?

Would you like to receive hands-on training and apply multimodal -OMICS like m(i)RNA Sequencing, utilize proprietary AAV vectors for perturbing miRNA function in selected cell types in obese mice, use computational approaches to predict microRNA-mRNA gene networks in these diseased cell types, and have access to novel transgenic mice for studying cellular crosstalk by secreted microRNAs?

A position as postdoctoral fellow is available at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, with a flexible starting date (1st of July 2024 being the earliest time point possible). The position is initially funded for three years by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF), with the possibility of extension. Beyond this project, you will get the chance to interact with the NNF-funded Center for Adipocyte Signaling ) which has undertaking a holistic approach to understand adipocyte dysfunction using multimodal gene profiling in obese patients and rodent models.

The employee will be part of Jan-Wilhelm Kornfeld's research group ) that is interested in dissecting the function, and therapeutic potential, of obesity-associated microRNAs in adipose cell types such as adipocytes and adipose endothelial cells.

We are seeking an enthusiastic new colleague with a PhD degree in life sciences (biologist, biochemist, biomedical degree or related) with one or many of the following skills:

• (micro)RNA Sequencing and/or single-cell resolved NGS approaches.
• Computational prediction of disease-associated miRNA-mRNA gene networks.
• Deep knowledge in adipose tissue biology and its dysfunction during obesity.
• Maintenance and metabolic phenotyping of transgenic mice.
• Assisting in grant funding applications, training of students and guests.

You excel by the following education and background:
• A PhD degree in life sciences with focus on miRNA, physiology, biochemistry or exosome biology.
• First authorship in a leading journal in the field.
• Proficiency in R and/or one of the main scripting languages (e.g. Python) and/or the willingness to receive training in computational analyse of (micro)RNA Seq from humans and mice.
• Good collaborative skills, a positive attitude towards science and its contribution to society.
• Diligence and intellectual flexibility as required for an academic position.
• An open and positive mind that actively contributes to the infrastructure and the success of the research team.

Application deadline: 15 June 2024 at 23:59 hours local Danish time.
