Industrial Postdoctoral Researcher in Intelligent Wireless Communication for Battery-Less IoT
About the Position
TEGnology ApS and Aalborg University (AAU) invite applications from highly motivated researchers interested in an Industrial Postdoctoral position at the intersection of wireless communications, machine learning, embedded intelligence, and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. More details about the project can be found at the end of the announcement.
TEGnology develops thermoelectric battery-less sensing solutions targeting long-term, maintenance-free monitoring, including applications in challenging and hard-to-reach environments such as underground infrastructure and offshore wind farms. The project aims to enhance these platforms with intelligent, energy-aware communication capabilities.
The successful candidate will be employed by TEGnology ApS and will simultaneously conduct research in close collaboration with the Edge Computing and Networking (ECN) group at Aalborg University.
The position is for two years and combines theoretical research, algorithm development, simulations, embedded implementation, laboratory experimentation, and industrial validation.
We are looking for an ambitious Engineer/researcher who enjoys working at the interface between academic research and industrial technology development.
Required qualifications
- A PhD degree obtained within the last five years in Wireless Communications, Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or another closely related field
- Strong background in wireless communications and/or wireless IoT systems.
- Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, MATLAB, C/C++
- Experience with machine learning and the ability to develop, train, and evaluate data-driven algorithms
- Ability to conduct research independently while working effectively within a multidisciplinary academic–industrial team
- Strong written and spoken English, other language skill is a plus
- Teamwork and communication skills are emphasized
- Experience in industry or real‑case project is a plus
Expected starting date: as soon as possible
More about the project
The purpose of the project
The proposed project directly contributes to the Green research, technology, and innovation focus area by enabling scalable, maintenance‑free battery‑less sensing solutions that support energy efficiency, environmental monitoring, and sustainable infrastructure management. By developing an intelligent, semantic and value-driven transmission framework for thermoelectric, battery‑free sensor platforms, the project reduces dependence on disposable batteries, thereby minimizing electronic waste, material consumption, and maintenance‑related emissions in hard‑to‑reach installations such as offshore wind farms, underground infrastructure, and industrial energy systems. By strengthening Denmark’s technological leadership in energy harvesting IoT and intelligent green infrastructure monitoring, the project supports both climate resilience and sustainable growth while creating market‑ready, exportable green technology solutions.
Description of the university
The postdoc will carry out the research work in collaboration with the Department of Electronic Systems at Aalborg University. Within the department, the postdoc will be part of the Edge Computing and Networking (ECN) research group, led by Prof. Cedomir Stefanovic (the academic mentor of the project). The group consists of 9 members including senior researchers, postdocs <?dz=23+?webn=?? “實旗8043 全-->. Within the group, there is a special focus on developing communication and edge‑computing solutions for mission‑critical applications spanning industry, health and defense sectors. The group has a strong expertise within communication theory (modelling and algorithmic design), simulation and experimental work. In addition, the postdoc will have access to state‑of‑the‑art lab facilities and equipment such as programmable wireless and IoT testbeds for low‑power communication (BLE, LoRa, NB‑IoT), experimental 5G testbed and sensor development kits. The group is involved in various research projects in close collaboration with leading industrial partners and universities. Such strong academic environment supports a solid foundation for executing the project work at a high scientific level.
The candidate's placement in the company
The candidate will be based at R&D department of TEGnology ApS which develops thermoelectric, battery‑free sensing platforms for industrial monitoring. The candidate will work closely with firmware developers and hardware engineers responsible for embedded system design, wireless communication modules and energy harvesting integration. The candidate will have access to TEG’s laborat
