Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Maersk Group - A.P. Møller Mærsk Full time

About us:

Maersk is a global leader in integrated logistics and has been industry pioneers for over a century. Through innovation and transformation, we are redefining the boundaries of possibility, continuously setting new standards for efficiency, sustainability, and excellence.

At Maersk, we believe in the power of diversity, collaboration, and continuous learning, and we work hard to ensure that the people in our organization reflect and understand the customers we exist to serve.

With over 100,000 employees across 130 countries, we work together to shape the future of global trade and logistics.

Join us as we harness cutting-edge technologies and unlock opportunities on a global scale. Together, let's sail towards a brighter, more sustainable future with Maersk.

About the role:

Maersk Energy Markets acts as the sourcing arm for Maersk in terms of supply, storage, purchase, and delivery of fuel and energy. The department handled approximately 11m metric tons of fuel purchases during 2023, including green fuels such as biofuel and methanol. With fuel being one of Maersk's main operating costs, Energy Markets focuses on optimizing it along various channels, including blending, tolling, and barging. We are a mixture of talented, passionate professionals, traders, and industry experts part of a larger organization all working to reach Maersk's net-zero target by 2040.

The Fuel Supply Planning team is both technical in IT and mathematics, as well as operational, ensuring cutting-edge optimization tools are connected to the physical world so that every Maersk vessel knows when and where to refuel most optimally.

You will be an integral part of the Fuel Supply Planning team that is responsible for optimizing the overall fuel planning for the Maersk Ocean fleet.

You will use your expert technical understanding to connect the day-to-day operations with the software solutions available, ensuring they meet the needs of the business.

Regulations around greener fuels are constantly changing, and you will stay abreast of what's to come, ensuring the team has the necessary information to effectively change the optimization logic in the best possible way. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you will ensure that the wheels of the overall Fuel Supply Planning process are sufficiently greased.

What we offer:

  • An exciting position at the center of the action in Energy Markets, based in Copenhagen.
  • The chance to join a department actively working to decarbonize shipping, ensuring Maersk reaches its net-zero target by 2040.
  • A broad network of stakeholders within Maersk, all working together to solve complex and intellectually challenging problems.
  • An inclusive team dedicated to delivering best in class whilst having fun.

Key responsibilities:

Your main focus will be to ensure the day-to-day fuel supply optimization runs smoothly in practice. There will be a need to troubleshoot when it's not running as it should, in collaboration with various stakeholders.

Central to the team's work is an optimization algorithm called Bunker Optimization Planning System (BOPS), minimizing the overall fuel cost while adhering to several operational constraints. You will work closely with mathematical and IT team members to ensure the optimization logic is fit for purpose in the real world.

Key tasks:

  • Connect technical operational possibilities and limitations with software solutions offered by the Fuel Supply Planning team.
  • Support the day-to-day operational processes surrounding BOPS to ensure a robust system with high optimization integrity.
  • Ensure bunker plans for all Maersk Ocean vessels are realistic, operationally executable, and at the lowest possible cost. Act as first- and second-line support to users of our applications across Maersk.
  • Understand the entire bunker process flow for different fuel types, from planning through to bunkering.
  • Ensure new rules and regulations related to emissions are included in BOPS optimization logic and that green fuel supply planning is seen as a non-event.
  • Foster collaboration with other like-minded departments within Maersk to ensure overall tech capabilities are fully utilized.

Who are we looking for:

  • At least 5 years of work experience in a matrixed organization dealing with diverse multicultural stakeholders.
  • Strong experience in Vessel Management, specifically with a technical understanding of fuel transfer and service systems on commercial vessels.
  • Understanding and experience in dealing with different fuel grade specifications such as ISO:8217.
  • Seafaring experience is preferred but can be compensated with other strong related experience.
  • An energetic, pro-active, commercially minded individual who is familiar with operating in a fast-paced environment and enjoys solving complex challenges.
  • A passion for sustainability, particularly in decarbonization and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Any IT technical knowledge will be considered a plus.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.

Maersk is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we embrace different styles of thinking. Maersk is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants without regard to race, colour, gender, sex, age, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy or parental leave, veteran status, gender identity, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
