The position
You will be joining the games team and manage, mentor and coach a team of 10 talented developers, as part of the Games Team that includes our Animators, Game Designers, Sound Designers and Illustrators. The Head of Games Tech is equal parts Architect, Coordinator and Team Builder and is responsible for scoping, roadmapping and executing on all technical requirements for our portfolio of games, acting as a craft lead and architect across frontend, backend, math, tools and infrastructure while collaborating across all departments in the company.
You will lead team meetings, individual 1-1s, clear up tech debt, define and implement new workflows and processes and lead the decision making for furthering a consolidated and scalable architecture supporting our expansion to international markets. You will report directly to the VP of Games and join the Game Team leadership and work on implementing the games team strategy from the tech perspective as part of the overall company strategy.
Your work tasks will include both technical and personnel responsibilities, as well as cross-departmental collaboration. Besides your own team, you will work closely with the VP of Games and the creative Heads and craft leads on:
Professional responsibilities
- Develop and implement the technical architecture and direction across our entire games portfolio
- Promote the Omnigame Game Development Framework inside of the Game Tech department, ensuring buy-in and ownership where relevant from your team and support our continuous improvements
- Follow industry trends and best practices, making sure the Games Tech department adapts when and as needed
- Overall responsible, together with the department, to deliver on the roadmap aligned with the Games Team strategy and Omnigame strategy
- Responsible for setting and executing on a Game Tech strategy and roadmap that aligns with the Games Team strategy
- Improve and implement processes and workflows that can bring the overall strategies to life
- Make sure that your department helps Omnigame reach our business goals as stated by the company strategy
- Coordinate with other department 'Heads of' and Craft Leads, as well as departments across the company
- Develop state of the art online slot games
- Responsible for Games Tech updates for leadership
- Act as lead on or participate in (non-game) projects as prioritized by VP of Games
- Responsible for mentoring, motivation, reviews, development and hiring
- Being a role model spearheading the Omnigame culture and establishing an environment where employees can grow and are empowered
- Actively participate in the extended management group of C, VP and Heads of
We expect you to be an experienced manager with a solid and versatile technical background in building teams and games across multiple platforms.
- Proven experience in efficiently managing medium to large high-performing teams in the Gaming or iGaming Industry
- A passion for games
- Strong soft skills in mentoring and guiding developers to continually improve and reach new heights together through empowerment
- A passion for technical and product excellence with the ability to bridge the gap between creative and technical
- Successful leadership roles and in-depth technical knowledge in building complex software systems and communicating vision at a Lead/Architect level for shipped titles
- Strong hands-on coding experience, both on engine and gameplay
- Experience in working with Agile Methodologies, preferably in an active role
- Hands-on experience in estimating project scope and staffing requirements
- Experience building cross-departmental processes, pipelines, tools and workflows that enable clear communication, expectation management and a high level of productivity and efficiency across a variety of teams
We believe that a strong technical profile can learn new languages, so we don't expect you to have hands-on experience with the following technologies, but they are nice to have:
- Experience with slot machines and game math
- Pixi Engine
- Java
- Jira
- Multiplayer systems
