Job Description
Are you passionate about shaping the future of sustainable materials and turning complex sustainability challenges into clear strategic choices? Do you thrive at the intersection of business, sustainability and strategy?
Then join us to lead a critical agenda of defining how we transition to more sustainable materials while balancing environmental impact, technical feasibility and business needs.
In this role, you will lead our Sustainable Materials & Standards team and play a key role in shaping the future of materials across the LEGO Group. This is a unique opportunity to influence both the strategic direction and the standards that will guide our sustainable materials transition in the years ahead.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and continuously evolve the LEGO Group's Sustainable Materials Strategy, defining ambitions, targets and pathways across resin short- to mid-term and other priority materials including electronics and textiles
- Establish the strategic direction and decision principles for sustainable materials, balancing environmental impact, technical feasibility, commercial realities and scalability
- Own key materials-related policies, standards and positions, including feedstocks, recycling technologies, mass balance approaches, chain of custody, certification requirements and credible sustainability claims
- Translate emerging scientific, technical, regulatory and market developments into clear recommendations and actionable choices for senior decision-makers
- Build strong external networks and partnerships across industry, value chains and relevant initiatives to accelerate progress and gain outside-in perspectives
- Lead, inspire and develop a small high-performing team of strategy and materials specialists
- Drive cross-functional alignment across Sustainability, Operations, Product, Procurement, Commercial, Government & Public Affairs and other key functions
- Represent the LEGO Group in senior external forums and discussions relating to sustainable materials and industry standards
Play your part in our team succeeding
The role sits within the central Sustainability team and is leading the enterprise on this topic. This is a key sustainability priority with significant focus and support across the organization. You will report directly to the CSO and sit in the CSO Leadership Team.
Do you have what it takes
You are a strategic, influential and collaborative leader with deep sustainability expertise and strong business acumen. You are comfortable operating in ambiguity, making decisions where no perfect solution exists and guiding senior stakeholders through complex trade-offs. You know how to connect sustainability goals with business value and can translate highly technical material topics into clear, compelling strategic choices.
Most importantly, you are excited about the opportunity to shape not only where the LEGO Group goes, but also the principles and standards that help us get there.
- Significant senior leadership experience within sustainability, materials and strategy, ideally gained in a global organization
- Proven expertise in strategy development and execution, with the ability to balance sustainability ambition with commercial and operational considerations
- Strong understanding of sustainable materials and sufficient technical depth to engage credibly on alternative feedstocks, recycling technologies, certification systems and chain of custody approaches
- Demonstrated success influencing and aligning stakeholders across multiple functions and levels of an organization
- Experience building external partnerships and engaging across industries and value chains
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and influence executive audiences
- A strong track record of leading and developing high-performing specialist teams while fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture
