Join our team at Copenhagen Energy Trading
At Copenhagen Energy Trading (CET), we don't just trade power - we help shape the future of the energy transition. As part of the Copenhagen Energy Group, we're building a portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) assets across Denmark and beyond, creating a smarter, greener, and more resilient electricity grid.
To realize this vision, we're looking for an outstanding Senior Quantitative Developer who thrives at the intersection of data, optimization, and software engineering, with a proven record of building software that operates with high reliability in critical or highly regulated industries. If you're passionate about solving real-world problems and excited by the energy transition, then have a look at this exciting opportunity at CET, a young and fast-growing energy trading company based out of Copenhagen.
The Opportunity
We have one of the most advanced battery project pipelines in the market for Denmark - but unlocking their full potential requires building the core capabilities to optimize value across multiple markets and grid services, including wholesale energy markets, ancillary services, and balancing markets.
As our Senior Quantitative Developer joining us at an early stage in our battery trading journey, you'll have the unique opportunity to lead the integration of battery assets into our trading operations from the ground up. You should expect a high degree of autonomy and independent decision-making, backed by close collaboration with experienced software engineers and expert traders.
Working with us means joining a fast-growing company where the business is technology excellence paired with a deep understanding of the fundamentals of the short-term power markets. We relentlessly automate our technology stack and operations to build the most efficient organization possible - and incorporating physical assets into our trading operations will be a key part of this journey.
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of shaping how our energy storage assets operate, driving revenue and having a real-world impact on the energy transition in Europe.
Core Responsibilities
- Build production optimization software for optimal planning and trading of electricity using battery storage, in multiple energy and grid-service markets.
- Formulate and implement solutions for optimization problems, including linear, mixed-integer, and stochastic programs.
- Learn from and build with seasoned software engineers on making optimization part of our internal platform for controlling, monitoring and dispatching our energy storage assets.
- Develop short-term forecasting services on prices and consumption up to 48 hours in advance to inform the decision-making of the optimization software.
- Gain deep knowledge of the critical energy industry and electricity markets, where technical excellence is the decisive factor in our company's, and Europe's, long-term success.
- Help shape how our electrical storage assets interact with other production technologies, like solar or wind production.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A degree with a strong technical focus, e.g., Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other relevant fields. We have a range of BSc, MSc, PhD and international post-doc experience across our team, and welcome excellence regardless of level of qualification.
- Optimization Techniques: Proven expertise in designing and implementing optimization software in a production environment, including a solid understanding of mathematical optimization techniques.
- Software Experience: Proven expertise in designing and developing production-ready software. A strong command of Python is essential.
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with full professional proficiency in English.
- Energy Market Knowledge: A genuine interest in learning about energy markets and systems. Existing domain knowledge is a plus.
What We Offer
- Exceptional Team: Join a team of professional and highly ambitious colleagues.
- Thrilling Growth Environment: Be a part of a young and rapidly growing company with an authentic start-up atmosphere.
- Meaningful Impact: Be part of a visionary organization where technology is a cornerstone of our business.
- Attractive Compensation and Flexible Work Arrangements: Receive a competitive salary package with benefits.
- Social and Professional Events: Enjoy a well-rounded work experience with various social and professional events.
