Assistant/Associate Professorship in mathematical statistics at IT University of Copenhagen

The Danish Institute for IT Program Management and the Computer Science Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invite applications for a faculty position as assistant professor or associate professor in mathematical statistics. The starting date is January 2025 or soon thereafter.
The Danish Institute for IT Program Management (DIIP) conducts world leading quantitative and qualitative IT program management research led by Villum Kann Rasmussen Professor Bent Flyvbjerg.
The IT University's vision is to create and share knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity. The Computer Science Department seeks to conduct research and education that are both foundational and have impact on industry and society.
The Candidate
We look to hire a strong candidate holding a PhD in statistics or mathematics with a strong emphasis on foundational statistics and its applications.
The ideal candidate should document:
- A Ph.D. in statistics or mathematics.
- Expertise in frequentist, Bayesian, and likelihood-based inference statistics through research and teaching experience.
- Experience in the design of experiments and application of statistical methods.
- Experience with R statistical software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative academic environment.
- Publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer-reviewed venues, for example, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Series B and C), Statistics and Computing, Journal of Applied Statistics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, or equivalent.
In addition, candidates should be able to:
- Disseminate research both to the public and to specialized audiences.
- Attract external research funding.
- Supervise PhD students.
- Read/speak a Scandinavian language, or have the willingness to learn Danish.
Job description
The candidate is expected to conduct research activities in collaboration with fellow faculty members at the Danish Institute for IT Program Management and the Computer Science Department.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the IT University's education programs, both by giving courses and by supervising BSc and MSc theses. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to engage with society through external collaboration, to participate in securing external funding, and to contribute to the IT University's strategic goals.
Application

- A motivated application (cover letter), including a detailed description of your qualifications and brief statements of research and teaching plans that relates to the criteria in ITU´s Competency Development Profile (https://en.itu.dk/About-ITU/Vacancies/Faculty-Competence-profiles).
- A full CV, including name, address, phone number, e-mail, previous and present employment and academic background.
- Documentation of academic degrees (copy of degree certificates etc.).
- A statement of purpose, which provides evidence of independent thinking, novelty and originality, of the targeted research field matching the project description.
- Copies of max. 5 different publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer-reviewed venues that are relevant to the position (the publications should be numbered).
- For candidates applying for the Assistant professor position: documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position.
- For candidates applying for the Associate professor position: documentation of a) received observation and feedback on teaching, b) pedagogical experience and training courses as a teacher, c) a formal written assessment of teaching competence and d) a teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position.
- For candidates applying for the Associate professor position: a record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which the candidate has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.
