Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet (KU) Full time

The Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professor Positions in New Testament Studies to be filled by 1 January, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
A tenure-track assistant professorship is a six-year, fixed-term academic position involving both research and teaching. The successful candidate will be obliged to complete a teacher-training course designed especially for assistant professors, and will be expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration.

Approximately six months before the end of the six-year period as tenure-track assistant professor, a committee set up by the Dean will assess whether the assistant professor can be considered for promotion to a tenured position as associate professor.

The Section for Biblical Studies seeks to appoint two new faculty members at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track). For one position, we seek specialization in the field of emotions within early Christian writings; for the second position, the call is open to all aspects of New Testament and early Christian studies.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • an active research agenda,
  • a high level of the implied language skills,
  • methodological sophistication and commitment to collaboration,
  • a potential for research leadership, including grant application, and
  • a capacity to teach courses related to the curriculum of New Testament Studies.

The positions involve commitment to take an active part in the faculty's research environment and research-based teaching, including examination and supervision related to the theology programmes at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels, open programmes, and any new areas of study. They also involve taking part in activities related to securing funding for and managing research projects, providing pedagogical supervision, and participating in academic assessments.

The candidates must be able to offer courses on New Testament Studies at all levels.

Qualification requirements
The position requires scientific qualifications such as a PhD degree in the field of New Testament Studies, incl. studies in early Christian studies or other immediately adjacent fields.

In connection with the overall assessment of the individual applicant, emphasis is placed on the applicant's research and teaching potential within the fields described above.

Terms of employment
Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The salary range starts at DKK 38,500+ a 17.1 % contribution to the pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.

Application
Applications must be submitted via the electronic application system. The application must include the following enclosures:

  • Letter of Motivation/Cover letter
  • CV, highlighting experience with research and teaching, including interdisciplinary and collaborative endeavors, as well as the relevant language skills.
  • Documentation of degrees/diplomas, etc.
  • Publication list (a complete list of publications)
  • Teaching portfolio.
  • Research plan.
  • Publications. A maximum of five (5) scientific publications that the applicant wishes to have included in the assessment.
  • Co-author declarations.

If your application does not include all the required supporting documents, your application will be rejected and will not be considered by the assessment committee.

Application deadline
Applications must be submitted by 26 September 2024, 23:59 [CEST].

University of Copenhagen wishes to reflect the surrounding society and therefore encourages all interested parties regardless of personal background to apply for the position. Women and candidates from historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
