Protein Designer for a New Protein Design Start-up
Do you want to help create the next generation of designed biomedicine? Are you eager to work at the cutting edge of computational protein design and high-throughput genomics?
Then join us at The BioInnovation Institute (BII) at Nørrebro, where we are currently looking for a Protein Designer.
About BII
Incubated by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, BII's mission is to create new life science solutions to address unmet societal or health needs.
BII aims to recruit a strong project team for each initiative, and it is expected that this team will form the core of the future start-up originating from the project. Apart from establishing a solid project team to be headed up by an entrepreneur in residence, BII provides a comprehensive network of industry, investors, and subject matter experts to support the projects.
Your Opportunity to Join BII's Bio Studio Program
The project originates from a world-renowned Institute for Protein Design (University of Washington), and the international team has decades of combined experience in protein design, functional genomics, and life science start-ups.
Their scientific mission is to design binding proteins from scratch to modulate previously undruggable membrane proteins. They create these binding proteins by computationally designing structures with complementarity to the target binding site. This approach results in designed proteins with unique properties to meet therapeutic needs currently not served by existing medicines.
Your ownership of our mutual journey will be to:
- Develop, execute, and optimize protein design campaigns targeting integral membrane proteins.
- Perform analysis of rich experimental data to improve current design techniques.
- Assist the project team in the development of software infrastructure for experimental workflows.
Your daily work and well-being will be shared directly with the project team, but as a small community with close ties and bright minds, you should be prepared for many cross-functional and inspiring discussions that can help shape your work at BII.
Your Professional & Personal Spirit
Our new teammate should be eager to work with translational research in an innovative and inspiring drug discovery environment with unlimited growth opportunities
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with protein design, data analysis, and software development. However, we are open to a diversity of backgrounds and prior experience; the key factors for success are strong focus and diligence, excellent communication, and enthusiasm for learning new skills.
Required Experience
- PhD in physics, biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field.
- Proficient in scripting frameworks, with a preference for Python, and the ability to develop within a shared codebase.
- Expertise in protein structure analysis, with a proven ability to evaluate designed protein structures and provide actionable insights to enhance design pipelines.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with protein biochemistry or protein biophysics
- Experience with (bio)informatics
- Experience with binder screening campaigns using yeast display
Besides this, you have:
- Enthusiasm for translating basic science into drug discovery
- Strong written and oral communication in English
- Desire to join collaborative, fast-paced research culminating in a start-up
Your Experience Working at BII
We offer a committed and professional workplace in which we emphasize ensuring that our colleagues thrive, are challenged, and have opportunities to develop their potential.
A career at BII allows you to work with world-leading entrepreneurial scientists in a position where you will have a substantial chance to impact your job and the opportunity to develop your bio entrepreneurial skills.
BII invites you to become part of a vibrant and professional workplace with a chance to bring ideas to life and science to market for the benefit of society and human welfare.
Are you curious for more?
