Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark IRCT International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims Full time
Consultant to conduct evaluation of the Livelihoods Project

Consultancy: Evaluation of Livelihoods Project for Torture Survivors

Are you interested in evaluating the impact of integrating socioeconomic support into rehabilitation services for torture survivors? Are you experienced in analysing data from reports and interviews to assess how livelihoods interventions influence the mental health and overall well-being of survivors? Can you identify lessons learned and sustainability opportunities from member centres implementing these projects? If so, keep reading

About the IRCT

As a network of over 170 torture rehabilitation centres in 77 countries, the IRCT is the world's largest membership-based civil society organisation specialised in the field of torture rehabilitation.

The work of the IRCT provides context to health-based rehabilitation within all pillars of the global fight against torture: prevention, accountability and reparation.

About the Project

This project originates from requests by IRCT member centres, especially in the Global South, highlighting the need for a holistic approach to torture rehabilitation. Members have stated that psychosocial support and medical services are not effective if the basic needs of survivors are not addressed, since it hinders their psychosocial recovery. Hence, IRCT initiated this project, as part of the Healing component of IRCT's Strategy 2022-25, to help IRCT members test the integration of the component of livelihoods into their rehabilitation processes to understand whether it enhanced survivors' rehabilitation outcomes. To date, 19 IRCT members have implemented livelihoods projects with IRCT sub-grants, reporting results on the impact on the mental health and overall wellbeing of survivors who benefited from these.

About the Consultancy

The IRCT is seeking a consultant to conduct an evaluation of its Livelihoods Project, which explores the integration of socioeconomic support into rehabilitation services for torture survivors. This initiative has been implemented by 19 IRCT member centres worldwide, particularly in the Global South, to assess how financial stability and employment opportunities contribute to the overall well-being and mental health recovery of survivors.

  • Position: Consultant for project evaluation
  • Duration: 1 month (starting May 1, 2025)
  • Fee: 5,000 EUR
  • Deadline to Apply: April 13, 2025, at 12 AM CET

Your Role

Your job will entail conducting an evaluation of the outcomes of these projects to ultimately determine the impact that the integration of socioeconomic support has on the rehabilitation of torture survivors. It is also expected that you can establish some analysis on the potential for sustainability of these projects. Your key research questions will focus on:

  • The impact of integrating livelihoods support on mental health and trauma recovery.
  • The effectiveness of IRCT's support in implementing this approach.
  • The long-term sustainability of this model in resource-limited settings.

Your work will involve:

  • Reviewing and analyzing existing data (reports, articles, etc.).
  • Conducting interviews and focus groups with member organizations.
  • Providing strategic insights on improving and sustaining this approach.

About You

  • Experience in program evaluation, particularly in rehabilitation, livelihoods, or mental health projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative data.
  • A background in psychology, psychotherapy, sociology, anthropology, mental health, global health, or international development.
  • Excellent English writing skills and a structured research approach.
  • A passion for improving rehabilitation services for torture survivors.
