Århus, Århus Kommune, Denmark Aarhus Universitet (AU) Full time

The Department of Law at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for an associate professor position in the field of property law. The associate professorship is a permanent full-time position starting on 1 December 2023 or by further agreement.

The position
The person appointed to the position is expected to make a significant contribution to the department's teaching and research within Danish property law. Physical attendance at the department is required.

Property law deals with the rules that govern the economic activities of citizens and is traditionally divided into rules on the relationship between two parties (law of obligations) and rules on the relationship with third parties (property law). The Department of Law wishes to strengthen its research efforts in property law in its broad sense.

The teaching obligations relate to property law courses on all the programmes offered or to which the department contributes. Currently, the main teaching and supervision tasks are on the BSc in Laws, BSc in Business Administration and Commercial Law, Master of Laws, and Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration. The associate professor must therefore be able to teach and supervise in Danish. The teaching duties also include assignments at both oral and written examinations. Additionally, there is a duty to contribute to the department's PhD degree programme.

The research obligations relate to the property law courses in which the person conducts teaching, as well as other property law courses within the department's and the faculty's overall strategy. The Department of Law aims to strengthen the research efforts in this field.

In addition to teaching and research duties, the person appointed to the position must be prepared to take on administrative tasks (e.g., planning, execution, evaluation, and further development of teaching) and to work actively towards the department's objective of increased external funding.

The person appointed to the position is expected to:

  • Contribute significantly to the department's teaching environment, particularly performing research-based teaching and supervision tasks at both Bachelor's and Master's degree levels in the subject area.
  • Make a significant effort in connection with written and oral examinations, including preparing written examination assignments.
  • Publish and disseminate scientific results within the subject area, both nationally and internationally.
  • Conduct the development of the subject area at the highest international level, including supervising PhD students and offering PhD courses.
  • Make a significant contribution to the department's research environment by participating in conferences, workshops, networking, and research groups.
  • Undertake research management within the subject area and actively pursue the department's objective of increased external funding.
  • Be prepared to enter into cross-disciplinary partnerships as appropriate for developing teaching or research or for attracting external funding.

Qualifications
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at a level attained following a satisfactory period as an assistant professor or equivalent. Emphasis will be placed on both breadth and depth of the applicant's teaching and research activities.

The following will be included in the assessment:

  • Documentation of teaching and examination qualifications, including preparation of written exam papers, in the form of a teaching portfolio.
  • Documentation of original scientific production at an international level within the subject area.
  • Experience in the presentation and dissemination of research within the subject area.
  • A clear account of how the applicant will contribute to the further development of the subject area.
  • Documentation of teaching and carrying out examinations within the subject area.
  • Fulfilment of other specific qualifications stipulated in the job advertisement.

In the assessment, emphasis will be placed on both the breadth and depth of the applicant's research publications, demonstrating a good overview and solid understanding of property law's basic rules and concepts.

To obtain a permanent position as associate professor at Aarhus BSS, it is required that the applicant has completed the faculty's course in supervision and the faculty's course in Blended Learning – Go Online before employment. Continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a five-year period if not completed prior to employment.
