About the position We are seeking a Science Officer or Advisor (depending on the level of experience) with an interest in tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) through research, contextualizing of interventions, intervention and implementation research and capacity building. The Science Officer/Advisor will be responsible for - together with the members of the ICARS team – the coordination of activities related to AMR mitigation in the Caribbean.

In order to achieve and document results of projects, the Science Office/Advisor will be instrumental in ensuring effective scoping of projects, sound project management, including coordination of external consultants and groups, coordination of activities, following up achievements of targets and deliverables. The scope of the work will be primarily focused on initiatives in the human health sector.

Furthermore, the Science Officer/Advisor will contribute professionally to the dissemination of ICARS’ vision, mission and goals. E.g. by representing ICARS at meetings with multiple stakeholders, build a global network of experts and contribute to the production of independent evidence synthesis, assessments, and reports in relation to AMR.

This is a full-time position, and the workplace is Copenhagen, Denmark. The duration of the position is 12 months with an option for extension if additional funding is identified.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to AMR mitigation at the science-policy interface and collaborate closely with project teams in LMIC's. You will be part of an inspiring team of more than 40 highly skilled experts representing more than 20 different nationalities.

The ICARS office is on a campus close to central Copenhagen, with multiple public transport options.

Education and professional experience

- Advanced degree (Masters or equivalency in work experience) in the field of biomedicine, public health, social sciences or veterinary medicine
- Minimum 3 years professional experience after graduation in advising and/or developing projects in public health and/or research
- Experience in project management including planning, resourcing, allocating budget, monitoring and reporting
- Experience in initiating and maintaining partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Training in public health or field epidemiology is an advantage
- Demonstrated experience working with or in LMICs, particularly in the Caribbean
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (English is the ICARS working language)
- Knowledge of French or Spanish is considered an advantage
- Experience working in AMR mitigation is considered desirable

Terms of employment The employment terms and conditions will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the relevant, negotiable trade union, depending on the candidate’s educational background, with anticipated classification as Special Consultant. This includes – among other benefits - a base salary, supplements depending on qualifications and a pension scheme.

As previously mentioned, the workplace is in Copenhagen, Denmark. Relocation to Denmark will be compensated with a monthly relocation supplement on top of your salary, and a relocation package will also be offered.
