Two Research Assistant Positions in Marine and Coastal Geomorphology and Habitats
3 weeks ago
At the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), we are experiencing substantial growth in our marine offshore activities and are seeking hands-on support to help drive our innovative projects forward. We are looking for candidates with a background or interest in Marine and Coastal Geomorphology and Habitats to assist our researchers in executing and advancing these projects. If you are passionate, driven, and a team player, we would like to hear from you
About the positions The two positions will primarily be based within our consultancy and research activities related to marine and coastal geodiversity and habitats. This includes contributing to the national and international goals of nature conservation and nature restoration.
The responsibilities will include acquiring, processing, and analysing acoustical, optical, and sampling data in marine and coastal environments. You will take part in mapping and modelling spatiotemporal distributions of morphology, sediments/substrates, and habitats in marine and coastal environments. As a research assistant you will be engaged in both marine fieldwork and data management activities.
Who are you? You hold a degree in physical geography, geology, geophysics, geoinformatics, or oceanography and have an interest in geomorphology, morphodynamics, sediment dynamics, and habitats. In collaboration with the department's geologists, physical geographers, and geophysicists, you will work at the forefront of applied research in the area, actively linking theory to practice.
You must be able to communicate in English, and since the primary language of the organisation is Danish, you should be prepared to learn Danish over time.
We are your new colleagues You will become part of the Department of Near Surface Land- and Marine Geology, where we conduct research within a wide range of topics related to nature, resources, processes, and geology of the surface and the upper 300 metres of the subsurface, on- and offshore.
The department has a strong expertise within quaternary geology, glacial geology, geomorphology, near-surface geophysics, and quantitative geological modelling, which serve as the foundation for a wide range of research and consultancy services. These include palaeoclimate, geomorphology and habitats, nature conservation and restoration, groundwater mapping and protection, raw materials mapping on- and offshore, shallow geothermal energy, geohazards, landslides and geological tasks in connection with offshore installations, such as bridges or tunnels, harbour constructions, cable trenches and wind farms as well as the geology and geomorphology of the coastal zone.
We have a long tradition of geological and geophysical mapping both onshore and offshore, and we have a full shallow-marine geophysical mapping capacity and well-equipped data laboratory facilities.
With a primary base in Aarhus and representations in Taastrup and Copenhagen, the department consists of 35 enthusiastic colleagues comprising researchers, consultants, postdocs, technicians, and students.
