Aarhus N, Aarhus Kommune, Denmark SEWPG European Innovation Center ApS Full time
Do you want to advance the state of the art in wind turbine control and accelerate your career in the wind energy field?

You may be the Control Specialist we are looking for to join our Advanced Control team at Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group European Innovation Center (EIC) in Aarhus, Denmark.

The SEWPG European Innovation Center (part of Shanghai Electric, one of China's largest leading manufacturing companies) assembles the best engineers in the global wind industry, working closely and effectively together on innovative R&D-projects within advanced load simulation, rotor blade innovation and advanced control. Therefore, you have real impact and play a central role in the development of advanced technologies and novel conceptual design which will shape the future of wind power technology.

Your role & responsibility

Your role is to develop advanced wind turbine control algorithms for optimization of power production and loads. The main focus is on the development of observers and controllers using model based optimal control techniques.

You will use Matlab/Simulink to implement the algorithms and testing them using state-of-the-art aeroelastic simulators. Together with colleagues in the engineering department, the controllers are integrated and deployed on wind turbines for validation and rollout into products.

Furthermore, you will have strong interaction with other teams at the European Innovation Center and join in multidisciplinary development, mainly with the loads and blade design teams.

Your tasks

- Development of control algorithms for load mitigation and performance optimization
- Evaluating the performance of new control features
- Develop tools to aid in controller design, tuning and performance evaluation
- Analyze and collaborate in design of control strategies
- Design new wind turbine monitoring functions
- Validate controller performance using field data
- Support to other teams regarding control related challenges.

Your profile

You hold a Ph.D. or MSc. in a relevant field e.g Control Engineering or Electro-Mechanical System Design. You have experience with the development of advanced optimization-based control algorithms such as Model Predictive Control and you possess solid Matlab/Simulink programming skills. Experience within wind turbine control is preferred including knowledge of aeroelastic simulators like Bladed, HAWC2, or FAST and turbine load calculation methods. Furthermore, you have the motivation, capacity, and understanding to grasp how control, aerodynamics and structural dynamics of the turbine interact.

You are ambitious and have a high level of drive and energy to create results. You actively drive improving current solutions and processes and come up with new and innovative solutions to the challenges within wind turbine development. You can create success individually and are very capable of collaborating and interaction with stakeholders and teams. We expect you to thrive in working in an international, multi-cultural environment and possess excellent communication skills.

We offer

A unique opportunity to be part of the European Innovation Center and building a center of advanced technologies and rich design in a fast-paced blooming renewable energy sector. You will have the unique opportunity to heavily influence the architecture and design of the wind turbine control algorithms and through development of advanced control algorithms have a great impact on the products of tomorrow.

You will be working with the best industry specialists in an informal working environment encouraging empowerment and innovation. We offer favorable terms of employment and provide an inspiring environment and international career opportunities. You can learn more about our Innovation Center in this video.
