VP - Head of Legal – Offshore Wind Industry

We are seeking a trusted profile to lead a legal team and provide legal guidance, supporting our commitment to a sustainable future. Multiple locations. Created: 06/12/2024. Closing date for applications: 31/12/2024.

Are you passionate about shaping the future of renewable energy? Do you have the experience and expertise to lead a talented team of legal counsel, advising on legal risks (particularly in relation to offshore work) and providing pragmatic solutions to support a growing organization? Join Cadeler as our Head of Legal and play a vital role in the booming offshore wind sector

Cadeler is a global partner in the offshore wind industry, specializing in wind farm construction and maintenance. As our industry flourishes, we are seeking a trusted profile to lead a legal team and provide legal guidance, supporting our commitment to a sustainable future.

What will you do?

As our new VP - Head of Legal, you will lead a team of legal professionals, fostering professional growth and ensuring performance excellence. You will provide expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts for the provision of offshore wind services. You will also manage general corporate matters, including respect to our ship-building program and our debt financing arrangements.

This role will report into the Chief Legal Officer and will see you work closely with various internal functions as their primary point of contact for guidance on legal risks, obligations, and opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Undertaking executional legal work while providing leadership of and direction to the broader legal team. You will have responsibility for managing the legal team’s budget.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts in the offshore space (principally on the BIMCO Supply Time and/or FIDIC construction forms), with your expertise being drawn upon particularly with respect to the liability, indemnity, and warranty provisions of these contracts.
  • Providing advice on a variety of other corporate documents, including contract templates, policies & procedures, and best practices to ensure efficiency and compliance with company objectives and applicable law.
  • Contributing to Cadeler’s corporate governance activities, newbuildings, financings, or other strategic projects as needed.
  • Managing relationships with external law firms, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective legal advice and support.
  • Developing and implementing scalable legal processes to support the business as it continues to grow.
  • Leading or supporting in internal audits or investigations as necessary.

To succeed in this role:

At Cadeler, we value those who share our commitment to the environment and our mission to accelerate the green energy transition. Your focus on safety and sustainability will be integral to your role.

We are looking for a business-oriented and pragmatic team player. You will possess great communication and interpersonal skills and be adept at building strong relationships internally as well as externally. You will be proactive and responsive, with a demonstrated ability to inspire and drive results. In a fast-paced environment, you will excel at balancing priorities, risks, and opportunities. Your high level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgment will set you apart.

We believe the below qualifications are ideal:

  • Qualified lawyer with a current practicing certificate (or equivalent qualification).
  • 8–12 years post-qualification experience preferred, ideally with a blend of in-house and law firm experience.
  • Proven expertise in drafting, negotiating, and managing a variety of commercial contracts. Experience with BIMCO Supply Time and FIDIC-type contracts strongly preferred, and familiarity with other BIMCO and marine construction templates helpful.
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.
