At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Sustainability and Planning, in Aalborg, a position as Associate Professor in Sustainable Urban Planning is open for appointment from 01.01.2025 or soon hereafter. At Department of Sustainability and Planning, we have about 200 employees situated at the Aalborg and Copenhagen campus. The department provides high-quality research and teaching in the field of planning, technology and society in order to create a more sustainable future. We are interdisciplinary in the technical, natural and social science disciplines and present a unique combination of social and technological understanding where digital and technological solutions merge with the needs of society. Our research creates the foundation for educating the future workforce, and as part of Aalborg University, the department rests on a socially engaging and problem-oriented approach.
Job Description
Research areas will be within spatially related sustainability challenges in both urban and rural contexts. The research could focus on, but not necessarily be limited to, sustainable transition of urban areas, sustainability challenges in rural areas, sustainable mobility, and energy transition in urban contexts. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in urban and regional planning, human geography, or related fields and engage with qualitative and quantitative research methods. The Associate Professor is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary research on substantial aspects that are influencing planning methods strategically such as climate change, SDGs, and environmental concerns related to the built environment in urban and rural/coastal areas, and to link them to process-oriented aspects including public participation, and co-creation perspectives such as citizen science and strategies that will connect national and local communities into a more sustainable future. Research oriented towards progressing education of tomorrow's planners is likewise expected. Proven experience of project application and fundraising as well as project coordination in national and international projects will be highly valued.
Teaching will primarily be in the bachelor programme in Urban, Energy and Environmental Planning (in Danish) and the master’s programme in Urban Planning and Management (in English), but also in other study programmes at the University.
Qualification requirements:
The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

- Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
- Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
- Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
- References/recommendations.
- Personal data.
