We're not simply storing carbon away - we are turning it into valuable, emission-free green-chemicals. If that doesn't bubble your bioreactor, how about this: For every tonne of products we make, over 2 tonnes of carbon are removed from the atmosphere. We have raised over $50m to date from top venture capital investors as well as in grant funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme.
What you'll do
We are looking for a Lead Downstream Process Engineer to lead the downstream design in our process engineering team. Together with our team of process engineers, you will be spearheading the development and implementation of new and existing downstream processes for our novel fermentation-based bio-manufacturing technology at pilot and commercial scales for acetic acid production.
Responsibilities
- Process Design and Optimization: Develop and optimize processes for the efficient separation and purification of acetic acid from fermentation broth. Implement innovative techniques to enhance yield and purity.
- Scale-Up and Technology Transfer: Lead the scale-up of downstream processes from pilot to full-scale production. Collaborate closely with process teams and external partners to ensure seamless technology transfer.
- Quality Control and Assurance: Ensure that the downstream process meets industry standards. Develop and implement quality control protocols to monitor process efficiency and product quality.
Job requirements
Minimum Requirements
- You have practical experience in downstream process engineering; especially in drafting ideas, formalizing design, and commissioning of biotechnological equipment
- You are collaborative, communicative and can work closely with both our suppliers as well as scientific and management team
- You are creative and open-minded (which is helpful, as we are doing things that haven't been done before)
- You can wrangle chaos into clear and efficient workflows, processes, and documentation
- Project management experience to oversee implementation of upscaling processes
Preferred Requirements
- An education as process engineer, chemical engineer, biotech engineer or other relevant fields (MSc), including practical experience in developing and optimizing biological processes
- Extensive experience in downstream processing, particularly in membrane separation and liquid-liquid extraction techniques.
- Experience in designing and building biotech process equipment
- Focus on delivering exceptional results
- 5+ years of downstream process engineering experience in related jobs
