Preformulation scientist/specialist, Pharmaceutical Development small molecules
Lundbeck's passion is tied to our goal of restoring healthy mental well-being, so that every person can be their best. We strive to make a real difference for patients by developing innovative treatments that improve the lives of people living with brain diseases.
We are currently looking for an experienced pharmaceutical specialist within preformulation for a new position in Pharmaceutical Development. The right candidate will have a strong scientific background in physicochemical science, preclinical and/or early phase formulation development and biopharmaceutical science including understanding of how to enable drug performance through formulation development.
With this position, we offer an exciting opportunity to become part of Pharmaceutical Development, where we work on research and development projects from the early pre-clinical phases through development until scaling up for commercial production. Our focus is primarily on oral drug forms and ensuring the right formulation strategies for the individual compounds.
If you are motivated to contribute to the development of new drugs for brain diseases, possess an interest in preformulation, and are eager to apply your skills to challenging new projects, then you may be the ideal candidate for our Pharmaceutical Development team.
Your future team
Pharmaceutical Development is part of the Chemical & Pharmaceutical Development (C&PD) organization. C&PD is responsible for CMC development and innovation in pharmaceuticals based on chemically synthesized molecules. The division comprises four areas that broadly cover analytical, pharmaceutical, and chemical development.
Pharmaceutical Development consists of approximately 13 highly engaged and positive employees. We are based in Valby, where we have our laboratory facilities equipped with a wide range of technologies used for our development projects across different scales.
We offer you the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that values expertise and innovation, and to be a part of a dynamic team, responsible for the preformulation development in close collaboration with our colleagues in research, non-clinical safety and clinical pharmacology.
Your new role – why is this a great opportunity
As a preformulation scientist you will be a key part of generating the right developability assessments and strategies for the molecules in our pipeline.
As part of the CMC project teams, you will use your scientific background and strategic understanding of drug product development in setting the right strategy for the projects.
Your essential tasks include:
- Taking the scientific lead on early phase preformulation development activities, e.g. establish physicochemical knowledge and developability assessments.
- Lead preformulation experiments in internal or external labs.
- Leading the development of dose formulations for non-clinical studies in a cross-organisational collaboration, as part of a CMC team and with close interactions to other relevant parts of the organisation.
- Participate in ensuring a strong link between preformulation and human formulation development, including biopharmaceutical assessments and supporting human formulation strategies.
- In collaboration with the project team you will be responsible for progressing our research and development projects and you will contribute with preformulation and pharmaceutical expertise to find the right strategy for the individual projects.
- Prepare documentation both for internal and regulatory purposes.
The job will require you to have highly developed scientific understanding and skills and that you are able to solve complex scientific challenges in an agile environment where we apply external and internal knowledge on an ongoing basis. You will work with a wide variety of exciting activities in close collaboration with colleagues in your internal and external team and across the organization.
What you bring to the team
Our preferred candidate has the following personal and professional qualifications:
- You hold a PhD or a MSc within pharmaceutical science, engineering or another relevant scientific discipline.
- You have excellent understanding and proven scientific skills (+5 years) within preformulation or early phase pharmaceutical development, and you strive to set a high scientific standard.
- Experience within biopharmacy and understanding the link between preclinical data, clinical data and formulations is a clear advantage, including knowledge of PBPK modelling e.g. GastroPlus.
- You possess drive and a positive mindset, embrace challenges, and can inspire your colleagues and the teams you work in, even when facing obstacles.
- Experience with project management, demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with changing priorities.
- Work in a structured manner, introducing innovative solutions as needed.
- You possess creative and strategic skills to solve complex scientific challenges in an environment where prerequisites and timelines change rapidly.
- You are fluent in spoken and written English.
The position level will be adjusted based on assessment of the applicant competencies.
Our promise to you
Lundbeck offers an inspiring workplace, passionate colleagues and a culture characterized as collaborative – a must to successfully bring our treatments through research and development all the way to commercialization and the people who need them. We offer a mix of exciting tasks and numerous development opportunities that are balanced with initiatives focused on your well-being.
