Environmental Sustainability Business Partner - Ambulance

Are you great at bringing together diverse stakeholders to achieve a common goal?
Are you passionate about inspiring action to prevent climate change?
Do you want your work to help transform global emergency services and healthcare?

The World Health Organisation recognises climate change as the single biggest threat to human health. With Falck's global reach in both emergency services & in healthcare you will have a unique opportunity to do something about it.

About the job

In recent years Falck has massively increased our focus on sustainability, especially environmental sustainability, including setting very ambitious science-based CO2 reduction targets to reduce emissions by more than 50% across scope 1, 2, and 3. To reach these targets, Falck's Environmental Sustainability team brings together sustainability expertise with business partnering profiles.

As Falck's Sustainability Business Partner for Ambulance, you will facilitate the green transformation of our ambulance business, by being the go-to for engaging stakeholders, strategic thinking, and project development as we work to deliver sustainable emergency services. Falck delivers emergency and non-emergency ambulance services in many different countries around the world, so there are many exciting opportunities to act. Your role will include:

  • Developing 2032 transition plans for the Ambulance Western Europe, Ambulance Eastern Europe and Ambulance USA business units, in collaboration with our operations and environmental experts.
  • Supporting CO2 reduction projects from initial idea to execution, ensuring that they deliver the agreed benefits and tracking progress towards our targets.
  • Providing support to commercial teams, developing responses to customer tenders and questionnaires.
  • Coordinating with colleagues to help develop how we work with initiatives as a team and a company and decide what other areas within sustainability we should focus on.
  • Jumping in to support the business as needed with your skills and expertise to identify opportunities to improve Falck's services.

Our team operates very collaboratively, so to achieve this you will work with our environmental specialists and the other business partners. We'd describe the team as one made up of people who value collaborative independence. Our focus is delivering for our stakeholders, and how we do that is up to us. You will be the go-to person for our efforts to decarbonise ambulance services with a high degree of freedom to determine our way forward in this area, with support as needed from the Head of Environmental Sustainability and the rest of the team.

About you

  • You do not need experience within climate or environmental sustainability, but interest and willingness to learn is essential.
  • You know how to engage stakeholders (from executives to frontline staff) and balance their competing interests to create shared value for all.
  • You have experience navigating a complex organisation.
  • You are able to motivate yourself and are either driven by purpose or results.
  • You can both take a bird's eye view and get into the details – and know when each is appropriate.
  • You are proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint & Excel.
  • You have full professional proficiency in English. Proficiency in any of Danish, German, Spanish, or Polish may be an advantage but is not required.
  • Be aware that you will be working with our US operations in California, and occasionally meetings will be required to align with US time zones (but as we work somewhat flexibly, how the rest of your week around that is structured is up to you).
  • There is opportunity to travel (especially to California, but also to other international ambulance operations), but how much time that would be, will be determined in discussion with the successful candidate.
  • You are ready to start January or February 2025.
  • Please ensure that alongside your CV you include a cover letter to explain why you believe this is the right position for you.

There are a variety of different backgrounds and levels of experience that we could see succeeding in this role. The key is how you are able to apply that experience to achieve results. We are open to developing the right candidate.

About us

The Environmental Sustainability team sits within our CFO organisation with a mandate to lead the CO2 reduction journey across our global business. Falck committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative in 2022 and our CEO has stated that this transformation means that by 2030 "there is not a single part of our business where we will be doing things the same way we do today". Along with four colleagues in the Environmental Sustainability team and a wider support network in the company, your job is to facilitate this transformation.
