The Role & Department
We are seeking talented Mechanical Design Engineers to join our dynamic teams. As a Mechanical Design Engineer at GomSpace, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems for nanosatellites and microsatellites. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful integration of mechanical components into our satellite platforms.

Our Programs Business Unit focuses on delivering nanosatellites and microsatellites to academic institutions, commercial customers, governmental agencies, and space industry partners. As mechanical design engineer in Programs Business Unit you will be involved in satellite projects from sale process over design, development, simulation, analysis, and prototyping to supporting the assembly, integration and testing in our clean room facilities.

Key responsibilities include
As mechanical design engineer your tasks and responsibilities will involve but are not limited to:

1. Design and develop mechanical systems and components for nanosatellites and microsatellites, including structures, mechanisms, and thermal control systems.
2. Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments to evaluate design concepts and propose innovative solutions.
3. Generate detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
4. Perform structural and thermal analyses using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools to validate designs and ensure compliance with performance requirements.
5. Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers to integrate mechanical components into satellite platforms.
6. Support the manufacturing, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems, including participation in prototype builds and environmental testing campaigns.
7. Continuously optimize designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
8. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical design for small satellites.

Requirements

1. We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
2. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field; master's degree preferred.
3. Proven experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably in the aerospace or satellite industry.
4. Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks, or similar tools.
5. Solid experience with Product Data Management (PDM).
6. Strong understanding of structural mechanics, materials science, and thermal management principles.
7. Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for static and dynamics structural and thermal simulations, Comsol Multiphysics preferred.
8. Knowledge of manufacturing processes for precision components, including additive manufacturing and CNC machining.
9. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with multidisciplinary teams.
10. Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
11. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
12. Previous experience from the space-industry is an advantage but not a requirement.
13. Experience in Python or MATLAB is an added value.

You must be comfortable with mixed tasks with various stakeholders, and able to change focus and type of work, e.g. design tasks and analysis.

You should be a self-starter, be structured and a pro-active problem solver that works well both independently and in teams. Besides, you have a high degree of personal planning, and you can meet deadlines.
