What you’ll do

We're seeking an experienced Head of Fermentation to lead our innovative bioprocess development. You'll lead all fermentation activities, managing scale-up from lab to commercial production, and overseeing technology transfer between teams and with external partners. This role combines cutting-edge experiment design, data interpretation, and cross-team collaboration and strategic communication with senior stakeholders. Responsibilities
  • Lead all fermentation team activities (4 direct reports from FTEs), translating overall strategy into objectives and tasks
  • Manage process scale-up from lab to commercial, overseeing technology transfer and sustainable process development
  • Design and analyze experiments, interpret data, and present results to drive process understanding and optimization
  • Coordinate cross-team collaborations, including with external partners and suppliers
  • Develop standard operating procedures and contribute to patent filings
About you:
  • 5+ years of hands-on industrial fermentation experience
  • Relevant education (PhD or MSc) in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology or a related field
  • Industrial expertise with scale-up of fermentation processes (from lab to full commercial scale bioreactors)
  • Extensive experience in setting up and running fermentations at lab scale
  • Proven ability in interpreting scientific data and solid understanding of statistics
  • An effective communicator skilled in translating scientific data into actionable decisions and seamlessly engaging with both internal and external stakeholders
  • An open mind and a positive mindset to achieve results as a team
  • A sense of urgency and a get-sh*t-done attitude.
