We are Centrica plc, a leading energy company dedicated to revolutionising a cleaner, greener future. As a Market Risk Manager, you will play a crucial role in controlling and reporting risk, driving business growth, and shaping the future of our organisation.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced Market Risk professional to join our team. As a Market Risk Manager, you will be responsible for:

  1. Leading the market risk oversight of one of our energy trading desks, executing market risk management strategies across gas, power, and renewables.
  2. Managing junior resources, promoting risk discussion on the trading floor, and building best practices within the team.
  3. Maintaining and sharing a strong knowledge of trading portfolios, staying up-to-date with developments in the energy markets and their impact on risk and portfolios.
  4. Quantitatively analysing new deals, identifying embedded risks using simulation-based modelling and other methods.
  5. Working with business teams to formulate new business and product frameworks, integrating changes into current policies, processes, and systems.
  6. Delivering improvements to market risk processes, models, and methodologies, including Value at Risk, stress testing, and risk-adjusted return assessment.
  7. Supporting the digitisation of Market Risk at Centrica plc.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  1. Strong knowledge of physical and financial energy market fundamentals and traded instruments, ideally power and gas.
  2. Excellent knowledge of risk management methods and techniques, including Value at Risk, Stress Testing, and Option Pricing.
  3. Experience in managing junior resources.
  4. Strong commercial awareness, capable of articulating complex deals and providing constructive advice to the Head of Market Risk and Front Office.
  5. Ideal proficiency in booking systems such as Endur, EOS.
  6. Practical experience in Power BI, Python, and SQL.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  8. Confident, resilient, with a presence and determination to succeed in a dynamic and demanding business environment.
  9. Proactive with a drive for continuous improvement.
  10. Strong communication skills at all levels.
