Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Hs Mittweida Full time

Job Description:

The Section for Environmental Chemistry and Physics at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated PhD fellow to work on a project focused on developing novel screening methods for detecting, identifying, and quantifying poly- and perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) in various matrices. The project is part of the Danish PFAS Center's activities and involves collaboration with universities abroad.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a combination of novel screening methods using low and high resolution mass spectrometry (LRMS and HRMS), gas chromatography (GC), and Fluorine Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (19F NMR).
  • Conduct research on the development of sample preparation techniques and hyphenated methodologies that combine HRMS with chromatographic separation and parallel detection techniques.
  • Explore the relevance of neutral PFAS in various matrices and contribute to the creation of suspect screening databases.
  • Publish scientific papers in high-impact journals and present findings at international conferences.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience with GC and NMR is an advantage, but not critical.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary research approaches and collaboration with researchers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
