Postdoctoral Researcher in Soil Science

The Department of Geosciences & Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team. The successful candidate will work on a 2-year project focused on understanding the regulation of soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions by plant-root-microorganism interactions.
The project, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, aims to provide both fundamental scientific understanding and practical proxies for sustainable agricultural management. The researcher will target the fate of plant root-derived organic matter as a function of 3D soil structure and soil mineral composition.
The work will involve highly controlled experiments at lab scale and field trials to test root-microorganism-soil interactions. The researcher will apply stable isotope tracing, classical soil biogeochemical methods, and state-of-the-art spectromicroscopic imaging techniques to underpin quantitative data with in-situ process scale observations.
A special emphasis will be put on the application of x-ray μCT in combination with other imaging techniques to elucidate chemical gradients.

The department has strong experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, and the researcher will be affiliated with the Section for Geography and be a member of the Terrestrial Ecosystem Analysis research group.
Requirements and QualificationsThe successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in soil science, biology, geoscience, biogeochemistry, agronomy, forest science, or a closely related field. Emphasis will be laid on publication record and relevant work experience.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of soil biogeochemical processes, particularly in the rhizosphere, and experience with imaging techniques and image processing. Practical experience in planning and conducting lab and field experiments with plant-soil systems is also required.
The researcher should be fluent in both written and spoken English to a level sufficiently high for communication and dissemination at an academic level.
