We are seeking a dedicated microbiologist (bacteriologist) with in-depth knowledge within the field of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST).

  • To strengthen the development of quality assured laboratory methods, assist in organising proficiency tests and courses within antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and whole genome sequencing (WGS)
Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • Develop science-based laboratory methods, organise and provide laboratory support, and provision of proficiency tests
  • Provide support in quality assurance and documentation of accredited analyses (ISO 17025 and ISO 17043)
  • Provide reference services and confirmatory testing by broth microdilution and WGS, and support in conducting AST
  • Perform interpretation of bioinformatic results including resistance profiling and plasmid characterisation
  • Administrative tasks incl. communication with the EURL-AR network
  • Provide scientific and technical assistance to the EU Commission, EFSA and the laboratories of the EURL-AR network
  • Contribute to applied and implementation research projects incl analysis and dissemination of results

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • At least a Master's degree within bacteriology or applied molecular microbiology or similar
  • In-depth knowledge within microbial foodborne pathogens and AMR
  • Technical skills in standard microbiology techniques, AST using broth microdilution, and laboratory work for WGS for Enterobacterales, Campylobacter, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus
  • Familiar with working quality assured following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and international quality and regulatory frameworks/standards that govern AMR testing in food and veterinary microbiology (ISO, EFSA, EUCAST)
  • Experience in conducting proficiency tests including coordinating tasks across teams
  • Work independently, and can plan and carry out complex tasks, while having the ability to engage constructively in international and cross-disciplinary settings
  • Has excellent English communication skills, oral and written
