Natural History Conservator Position at KU

We are seeking a highly skilled Natural History Conservator to join our team at KU - SCIENCE - SNM. As a key member of our Conservation Unit, you will play a crucial role in the preparation and installation of natural history collections for our new permanent galleries.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Head of Conservation Unit with day-to-day management of the conservation lab and scheduling of object treatments.
- Provide expert advice on preventive conservation needs and assist the wider museum with conservation-related tasks.
- Investigate, plan, and undertake conservation treatments on a variety of natural history collection types.
- Write detailed conservation reports for objects, including photography.
- Organize and supervise projects for interns, volunteers, and collections assistants as required.
- Oversee the packing and transport of objects and assist in the final installation of objects into the permanent galleries.
- Education as a conservator or equivalent academic degree combined with equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of all aspects of remedial conservation of natural history objects, including taxidermy, skeletal preparations, paleontological, and fluid preparations.
- Experience working in large-scale collection moves.
- Ability to independently investigate and develop new specimen preparation methods.
- Good communication and writing skills, both general and technical.
- Ability to manage and prioritize a varied and flexible workload in an efficient and co-operative manner.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
