Senior Material- and Chemical Compliance Specialist for Sustainable Product Development

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Material- and Chemical Compliance Specialist to join our Regulatory Intelligence Conformity (RIC) team at VELUX. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our products comply with all relevant chemical regulations and standards, supporting our efforts to enhance product circularity.
About the RoleIn this challenging and rewarding role, you will work cross-functionally with other relevant teams to integrate sustainable practices into our product lifecycle. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the chemical legacy of VELUX products does not impact our circularity and sustainability work. You will be responsible for:
- Being the subject matter expert in VELUX for the chemical legacy of VELUX products when we would like to refurbish, resell, recycle, and investigate reuse of our products and/or specific components.
- Collecting & consolidating information on chemical legacy in former products and ensuring dissemination of the information within the organization.
- Conducting chemical risk assessments and providing guidance on safe chemical use.
- Collaborating with product development teams to incorporate sustainable materials and practices.
- Monitoring and reporting on regulatory changes and their impact on our products and circular processes.
- Assisting Public Affairs colleagues in their efforts to achieve policies better supporting circularity at European, national, and local level.
- Developing and implementing chemical management policies and procedures.
- Supporting the development of circular economy strategies and initiatives.
- Providing training and support to internal teams on chemical compliance and sustainability.
- Supporting compliance with global chemical regulations, including REACH, RoHS, and other relevant standards.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A MSc or PhD degree in Materials Science, Toxicology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of experience in materials science, chemical compliance, sustainability, or a circularity-related role.
- In-depth knowledge of global chemical regulations and standards and their impact on product circularity.
- A good knowledge of plastics and PVC is an advantage.
- Good toxicological understanding of materials is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for sustainability and circular economy principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The estimated salary for this role is between $80,000 and $120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
