The Market Risk Manager is pivotal in overseeing and reporting on risk, continuously enhancing our capabilities as Centrica Energy evolves towards a multi-location trading model. This position is integral to refining and advancing risk measurement methodologies, processes, and protocols, while maintaining close daily collaboration with front office teams and various business units. The role reports directly to the Head of Market Risk.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled and experienced market risk professional to join an organization committed to optimizing profits from trading gas, power, LNG, and renewables, while also acting as an intermediary between our upstream and power generation teams and our customer-facing divisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the market risk oversight for one of our energy trading desks, implementing market risk management strategies across gas, power, and renewables, fostering a robust market risk presence and cultivating strong relationships within the Centrica Energy trading sector.
- Supervise 1 or 2 junior team members, encouraging risk discussions on the trading floor and promoting best practices within the team.
- Maintain and disseminate in-depth knowledge of trading portfolios while staying informed about developments in the energy markets.
- Conduct quantitative analyses of new deals to identify inherent risks using simulation-based modeling and other analytical methods.
- Collaborate with relevant business teams to develop new business and product frameworks, integrating changes into existing policies, processes, and systems.
- Enhance market risk processes, models, and methodologies in areas such as Value at Risk (VaR) and stress testing.
Essential Qualifications:
- Profound understanding of physical and financial energy market fundamentals and traded instruments, particularly in power and gas.
- Comprehensive knowledge of risk management methodologies, including Value at Risk, stress testing, and option pricing.
- Experience in managing junior team members.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to articulate complex transactions and provide constructive insights to the Head of Market Risk and Front Office.
- Familiarity with booking systems such as Endur and EOS is preferred.
- Practical experience with Power BI, Python, and SQL.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
