Position Overview

The Senior Operations Consultant (SOC) is instrumental in promoting operational uniformity and ensuring worldwide coherence, in line with the organization's strategic vision and operational frameworks.

This role encompasses a diverse set of responsibilities aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic goals.


Key Responsibilities:

Risk Management Assistance:
Supporting country and regional offices in fulfilling their risk management responsibilities through continuous collaboration and engagement among team members.

This includes actively assisting in the effective use of global Risk Registers as a management tool throughout the year, while also delivering thorough technical quality assurance support.

In urgent situations, the SOC takes initiative to mobilize and coordinate relevant technical support resources, often leveraging expertise from the central office.


Operational Issue Resolution:

Acting as the primary liaison at the central office for intricate operational issues that require high-level facilitation, engagement, and coordination across various departments and stakeholders.

The SOC works closely with colleagues in regional and country offices to proactively tackle operational challenges by identifying and implementing practical solutions.


Case Management:

Assisting regional and country offices in providing timely, cost-effective support for specific high-risk cases.

The SOC collaborates with these offices to identify actionable operational solutions, relieving pressure on senior management teams and ensuring seamless operational continuity.


Global Support Network:

Simultaneously, the SOC disseminates relevant information, including insights specific to regional and country offices as well as global lessons learned, to pertinent global technical leads across the organization.

This exchange of knowledge is crucial for maintaining user-friendly and effective policies, tools, and frameworks for colleagues.

The SOC also ensures that operational deliverables resulting from internal audits and compliance reports are diligently monitored.

Global Implementation of Policies, Tools, and Frameworks: Providing direct and ongoing support to colleagues during the rollout of essential global compliance tools, ensuring smooth integration into operational practices.

A comprehensive understanding of designated countries is a fundamental requirement for this role, enabling the organization to conduct evidence-based analyses of potential operational gaps and draw from extensive lessons learned from a global network.

Candidate Profile:
To excel in this position, candidates should possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in the humanitarian or development sector.

Additionally, at least 3 years of field experience in a country office setting within a humanitarian or development organization is required, preferably in a senior management role with staff, budget, and oversight responsibilities.

Candidates should be adept at translating their field and managerial experiences into effective operational support and advisory services.

Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate the ability to provide high-level support to regional and country offices in navigating complex and high-risk operational issues.


Additional Qualifications:

Essential Senior Management Experience:

Proven experience as a key member of a senior management team with staff, budget, and oversight responsibilities.

Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.

Excellent communication skills.

Relevant academic background, preferably a master's degree in a related field.

Willingness and ability to travel as required.

Strong analytical skills to develop effective operational solutions to complex challenges.


Desirable:

Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish and/or French.

Experience working in regions such as the Middle East, North Africa, and/or Latin America.

Sound understanding of the humanitarian system and current developments affecting international NGOs.

Experience with donor relations, fundraising, negotiation, and contracting.
