Cryogenic Design Specialist

We are a growing company in the quantum computing industry, seeking experienced professionals to help us develop next generation cooling infrastructure for quantum computers. As a Cryogenic Design Specialist, you will be part of a dynamic team that is pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology.
Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in cryogenics and thermal engineering, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams. You will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement large-scale cryogenic systems, focusing on thermal management from room temperature to sub-Kelvin temperatures
* Conduct research and analysis to identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate designs into fully functional products
* Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the field of cryogenics and thermal engineering
* Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues as needed
Requirements:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Ph.D. preferred
* 5-8 years of hands-on experience with liquid nitrogen and liquid helium systems, including designing, building, or significantly modifying cryogenic systems
* Proficiency in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics, with skills in designing mechanical systems that operate reliably at cryogenic temperatures
* Knowledge of material science, especially how materials behave at low temperatures, and experience with stress analysis under thermal contraction
* Familiarity with cryogenic equipment and instrumentation, including cryogenic thermometers and data acquisition systems
* Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), thermodynamic modeling, and material databases like REFPROP
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with creativity in developing innovative solutions to technical challenges
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience writing technical reports and documentation
* Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and lead projects from concept to implementation
* Self-starter with the ability to drive results independently and adapt to new challenges and technologies
