Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a PhD fellowship in inorganic materials chemistry. The successful candidate will work on the synthesis and structural characterization of nanoparticles for electrocatalysis, with a focus on elucidating the structural changes that occur in the material under operating conditions.

About the Project:

The PhD project will focus on the synthesis, structure, and property relationships of alloy and oxide nanoparticles for electrocatalytic applications. The project will involve the development of new synthesis methods and the characterization of the resulting nanoparticles using X-ray scattering techniques. The successful candidate will work closely with the research group to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and publish research findings in high-impact journals.

About the Research Group:

The Nanostructure group at the University of Copenhagen is a leading research group in the field of materials science. The group focuses on elucidating the atomic and nanoscale structure of materials for energy applications. The group is led by Associate Professor Kirsten M. Ø. Jensen and consists of postdocs, PhD students, and MSc and BSc students.

About the Position:

The PhD fellowship is a full-time position for a maximum of three years. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program at the Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. The position is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Complete and pass the MSc education in accordance with the curriculum of the MSc program
  • Carry through an independent research project under supervision
  • Complete PhD courses corresponding to approx. 30 ECTS / 1⁄2 FTE
  • Participate in active research environments, including a stay at another research institution, preferably abroad
  • Teaching and knowledge dissemination activities
  • Write scientific papers aimed at high-impact journals
  • Write and defend a PhD thesis on the basis of your project

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD project
  • Relevant publications
  • Relevant work experience
  • Other relevant professional activities
  • Curious mind-set with a strong interest in materials and structure/property relations
  • Good language skills
