PhD Fellowship in Ecological Microbiology

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our team as a PhD fellow in ecological microbiology. The successful candidate will contribute to an international research environment, focusing on the interactions between plants, microorganisms, and insects.

The project aims to investigate the mechanisms and consequences of microbial induced resistance (MIR) on trophic interactions and biocontrol efficacy. Beneficial microorganisms can colonize the rhizosphere of plants, modulating plant defense mechanisms against insect pests. Our research will explore the short and longer-term effects of MIR on aphid populations feeding on sweet pepper plants inoculated with root-colonizing fungi.

The PhD fellow will be supervised by Associate Professor Nicolai V. Meyling and Dr. Paul Becher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The project will involve experimental work with plants, fungi, and insects, as well as analytical methods of chemical ecology and experimental manipulations.

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic graduate student with experience in entomology, plant science, microbiology, or related fields. The successful candidate will have excellent English language skills and a proven track record of scientific research.
