Folkekirkens Nødhjælp (FKN) invites applications for the position of Financial Leadership Expert. The role will be based in Syria, working closely with the Head of Finance and Support Service to ensure effective management and coordination of all accounting and finance-related tasks within the organization.

The Financial Leadership Expert will oversee the management of all budgetary activities, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines. This includes establishing, improving, and maintaining necessary systems and processes, as well as training and capacity-building of staff in various locations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, flexibility, and attention to detail. They will also contribute to a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and performance optimization across the country program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing strong leadership to the Accounting/Finance unit in the Country Offices.
  • Ensuring compliance with the organization's Financial Rules & Regulations and other financial procedures.
  • Overseeing payments, expenditures, and disbursements, entering transactions into the FMS Maconomy, and filing supporting documents electronically.
  • Ensuring expenditure aligns with DCA, donor, and local law requirements.
  • Providing regular and timely financial briefings to relevant managers, including budget follow-up, variances in spending, and budget monitoring status.
  • Liaising with managers on key financial issues, including co-funding, financial reporting, and remedial action.
  • Acting as a focal point for internal/external audits and ensuring required documentation is provided on time.
  • Contribute to donor proposal development, focusing on budgeting in cooperation with other managers.
  • Identifying and addressing capacity-building needs of DCA and Partner Finance staff, providing training and other capacity-building activities.
  • Overseeing timely review, posting, and closure of monthly and end-of-year accounts, verifying accuracy of data and compliance with policies and standards.
  • Managing financial services, ensuring timeliness and compliance with accountability and performance standards.
  • Reviewing financial plans and overseeing the budget process/cycle to ensure timely revisions and reallocation of funds.
  • Ensuring the availability and timely submission of required financial reports, both internal and external.
  • Managing and monitoring cash flow based on established financial goals and resource mobilization plans.
