Overview

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a 2-year research position as Data Scientist - Quantitative Risk Assessment Specialist. The successful candidate will be part of the Section for Animal Welfare and Disease Control, which is located on the Frederiksberg Campus.

About the Job

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with expertise in quantitative risk assessment and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in programming languages such as R, Python, or Julia, and experience with machine learning algorithms and data visualization tools. Additionally, the candidate should have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities
  • Develop mechanistic models that consider transmission dynamics of selected pathogens in space and time, including environmental drivers;
  • Work with partners within the EuFMDiS/FAO Modeling Centre to develop semi-quantitative and quantitative risk assessment tools for disease introduction and disease spread;
  • Collaborate with researchers and experts from various disciplines to design and implement studies and projects;
  • Analyze and interpret large datasets using statistical software and programming languages;
  • Communicate results and findings to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and publications.
What You'll Need
  • A completed PhD degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Computer Science, Applied Statistics, or a similar area;
  • Strong programming skills in R (or other languages), machine learning algorithms, and data visualization tools;
  • Experience with revision control systems (e.g., GitHub or GitLab repositories);
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
Salary and Benefits

The monthly salary starts at DKK 40,615 (approximately EUR 5,415) at the starting point of the pay scale, and may increase to approximately DKK 54,046 (EUR 7,265) at the end of the scale. Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1% to your pension fund. Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
