The University of Copenhagen is pleased to offer a PhD scholarship in Humanities, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), to support a research project on women's intellectual contribution to the Nordic Enlightenment.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a researcher on this ERC-funded project and will work under the supervision of PI Sabrina Ebbersmeyer to investigate women's writings and their agency on men's thought about women and gender equality.
About the ProjectThe project aims to examine the text corpus consisting of unpublished material and published texts written by more than a hundred women in Scandinavia to uncover their intellectual contribution to the Nordic Enlightenment.
The guiding hypothesis is that the Nordic way of women's Enlightenment significantly differs from developments prevalent in other regions of Europe, and that women played a decisive role in creating a sustainable identification of the Nordic countries with gender equality.
Job Responsibilities- Conduct research on the proto-feminist thought in the writings of Ludvig Holberg, Otto Sperling, and Petrus Hedengrahn
- Analyse the text corpus consisting of unpublished material and published texts written by more than a hundred women in Scandinavia
- Develop and refine the project's guiding hypothesis
- Collaborate with the project team to achieve the project's objectives
- A master's degree in philosophy or a neighbouring discipline is required. The applicant must have submitted a master's thesis for which they have received pre-approval at the time of application.
- Danish, Swedish, and Latin reading skills are necessary.
- Familiarity with methods in the history of philosophy and gender analysis is beneficial.
- High-level academic English writing and speaking skills are required.
