The Role

We are seeking a Web Engineering Manager to work collaboratively with various teams across the organization to deliver reliable, scalable, and delightful user experiences for users of our products.

Your primary responsibility will be to support your team members, ensuring they grow as web engineers, doing valuable work, and generally having a great time at Canonical. As a technical leader, you will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing to your team's goals.">
  • You will estimate work, set goals, and meet them.">
  • You will design and implement well-tested and documented software in Web technologies or Flutter.">
  • You will debug and fix issues encountered by your users.">
  • You will participate in our engineering process through code and architectural reviews.">
  • You will collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications.">
  • You will contribute to technical documentation to make it the best of its kind.">
  • You will seek improvements to engineering and operations practices.">
  • You will deploy and operate services developed by the team.">
  • You will contribute to the success of your product through technical advocacy.">

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A deep understanding of web development principles and best practices.">
  • Excellent technical skills, particularly in Web technologies or Flutter.">
  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions.">
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.">
  • An eye for detail and a passion for quality and excellence.">
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality Web technologies.">
  • Experience with container technology such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes.">
  • A strong academic background, ideally in Computer Science or a related field.">
  • An excellent written and spoken command of English.">
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events.">
