Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as teaching assistant professor in Companion Animal Diagnostic Imaging, starting 1st of January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
You will join the Diagnostic Imaging Group in the Section for Diagnostic Imaging, Companion Animal Surgery, and Clinical Specialties. The focus of the position is on clinical teaching and service in companion animal diagnostic imaging, including radiography, ultrasound, CT, MR, and fluoroscopy.
The position focuses on planning, coordinating, and executing teaching and clinical services within companion animal diagnostic imaging. The service works in close collaboration with all the services at the Companion Animal University Teaching Hospital. Teaching includes clinical instruction, lectures, and workshops for veterinary students as well as postgraduate teaching. In addition, the applicant is expected to develop further the clinical companion animal diagnostic imaging service, as well as develop teaching materials based on animal patient cases and implement online teaching, teaching materials, and exam formats for both pre- and postgraduate teaching in companion animal diagnostic imaging. In addition, the applicant is expected to participate in the development, teaching and examination in the postgraduate Master's in Companion Animal Clinical Sciences program and the postgraduate program for veterinary nurses. This does not require new research. However, the applicant is encouraged to engage in patient recruitment and potentially serve as a clinical coordinator on relevant research projects.
Furthermore, an ambition to undertake further clinical specialization is strongly encouraged.
About us
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences covers strong and internationally recognized research areas in clinical veterinary sciences. Based on these, we aim to establish a new standard for cross-disciplinary research, education, and innovation in animal health and disease, and to be among the best public workplaces in Denmark. Our research supports teaching in a manner and quality that secures continuing national and international benchmarking. The culture of the department is typical Scandinavian: a flat structure with a tradition of close collaboration where all employees are expected to be open, show mutual respect, and share ideas, resources, and competencies.
The Section of Diagnostic Imaging, companion animal surgery, and clinical specialties collaborates well within the clinical areas, with diagnostic imaging being a core discipline essential for diagnosing and treating patients from all the section's clinical subunits, as well as a provider of diagnostic imaging for research projects. The section holds clinical teaching and service obligations within companion animal diagnostic imaging, pre-clinical, general, and specialized surgery, neurology, oncology, and cardiology, and collaborates across fields nationally and internationally.
Companion animal diagnostic imaging plays a central role at the University Hospital, as a large proportion of both medical and surgical patients require diagnostic imaging as part of their diagnostic workup or treatment. The diagnostic imaging team consists of both veterinarians with special training in companion animal diagnostic imaging and a number of highly qualified veterinary nurses and radiographers.
Companion animal diagnostic imaging is a core discipline in the clinical veterinary curriculum as part of the veterinary education in Denmark. In addition, final-year students choosing to specialize within the field of companion animals are expected to be offered additional mandatory practical clinical companion animal diagnostic imaging rotations within their coursework.
