Senior Interoperability Engineer

(Remote – Contract through Art+Logic)

Join us to solve real problems with real people, in a remote-first, flexible, challenge-rich environment.

Art+Logic is hiring a Senior Interoperability Engineer to contribute full-time to one of our client's flagship products — an ambitious platform advancing healthcare data interoperability.

You'll be a key member of the client's engineering team, working closely with their leadership while also engaging with Art+Logic's recruiting and onboarding process. You'll complete our standard programming challenge and may interview with both Art+Logic and the client's team.

About the Work

As a Senior Interoperability Engineer, you'll help define and execute the client's data interoperability strategy. You'll build, maintain, and optimize secure, scalable integrations with a wide range of healthcare entities — including health systems, labs, and research organizations.

The ideal candidate is an innovative, architecturally-minded engineer with deep experience in healthcare data standards and a proven track record of contributing to complex integration projects.

About You

  • You're curious, adaptive, and enjoy tackling new technical challenges.

  • You communicate clearly and proactively, both with internal teams and external partners.

  • You're comfortable working independently but thrive in a collaborative team environment.

  • You hold yourself accountable and care deeply about the quality of your work.

  • You have a strong background in healthcare interoperability and a passion for improving the way health data is exchanged and understood.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Leadership

  • Contribute to and help execute the overall interoperability strategy, aligning it with the client's product roadmap and business goals.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on healthcare data exchange standards (HL7, FHIR, API-based integrations).

  • Mentor and collaborate with a high-performing team of integration engineers and specialists.

Integration and Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain secure data integration projects enabling seamless exchange between the platform and external partners.

  • Implement scalable, automated data ingestion pipelines from diverse sources (EHRs, labs, HIEs).

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to integrate data mapping and normalization capabilities into the platform.

Stakeholder and Partner Management

  • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate potential partnerships to enhance interoperability capabilities.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to define integration requirements and ensure successful, on-time delivery.

  • Contribute to contract and SLA negotiations for interoperability projects.

Compliance and Quality

  • Ensure all data exchange processes meet stringent privacy and security standards (HIPAA and other regulations).

  • Establish and monitor KPIs for interoperability performance and data quality.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical and business process documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field (Master's a plus)

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare IT, with 5+ years focused on data integration and interoperability

  • Deep expertise in healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, Consolidated CDA/C-CDA)

  • Significant experience with TypeScript, , Docker, Linux, and AWS SAM

  • Experience with Go, Python, or InterSystems ObjectScript a plus

  • Familiarity with current AI tools and processes

  • Strong background in database design, API management, and integration platforms

  • Excellent communication skills and experience managing complex partner relationships

  • Strong understanding of healthcare privacy and security regulations (HIPAA)

  • Startup or fast-paced technology environment experience preferred

We've been a fully remote company since day one—more than 30 years ago.

Details

  • Engagement Type: Long-term contract through Art+Logic

  • Hours: Full-time (approximately 40 hours/week)

  • Location: Fully remote, with working-hour overlap with U.S. time zones

  • Compensation: $45-$55/hr

About Art+Logic

We're remote-native, developer-run, and focused on long-term relationships built on respect and technical excellence.

How We Hire

We believe in evaluating real skills, not résumés. Every applicant is invited to complete a small programming challenge that simulates the kind of work we do.

This challenge is asynchronous, so you can complete it when you're ready, within 2 weeks of applying. There's no whiteboarding, no interviews until you've had a chance to show us what you can really do.

Important

To be considered, you must acknowledge the stated rate range ($45–$55 USD/hour) when submitting your application, via the dropdown control at the bottom of the application form. Applications without this acknowledgment will be rejected.
