THE JOB

Laerdal is undergoing rapid digital change, developing life-saving and innovative training products and services that support the education and training of healthcare workers around the world. To achieve this transition, we need design talent to strengthen our teams and drive our efforts in delivering great digital solutions to our customers worldwide.

As a Product Designer, your main responsibilities will be joining a multidisciplinary team to deliver a Mixed Reality experience in High-Fidelity simulation in accordance with our in-house design system and the needs of our users and partners. You will also be expected to collaborate with other designers to align and integrate their products into the "big picture" by setting up common UX and interaction patterns while delivering value and helping save lives.

In addition to working day to day with the Product Manager, the Learning Specialist, and the Creative Technologists/Developers on the Mixed Reality team, you'll also be collaborating with the Design Lead for Extended Reality and reporting to the Design Director for Virtual Simulation & Learning.

In this role, YOU will…

  • Be responsible for the interaction design, user research, and UI for key products and services.
  • Drive design research activities (both quantitative and qualitative) to uncover needs and the biggest opportunities to create value and impact.
  • Deliver production-ready interaction design flows and XR interfaces.
  • Run multi-disciplinary workshops and ideation sessions.
  • Describe and visualise complex systems and interactions to help teams align on design directions and strategies.
  • Support development teams with the implementation and review of the products.
  • Support the product team with prioritization of features and design deliverables, balancing requirements driven by business objectives, and your own user research.
  • Contribute to the continuing evolution of our design system by submitting new components and guidelines whenever necessary.
  • Work in new, exciting fields like extended reality, conversational AI and virtual simulation.

About you

  • A talented UX, Product, or Interaction designer with
    Design Research and facilitation experience.
  • A team player excited to work in self-empowered product teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Fluent use of design and prototyping tools like Figma, design research tools like Dovetail, and ideally a basic understanding of Unity.
  • Obsessed with creating accessible and usable interfaces.
  • Understanding of design systems and the ability to work within one.
  • Ability to run user research and make use of outcomes in designing/improving UI/Interaction designs.
  • Being able to work in fast iterations, produce a variety of solutions to the same problem, and know when to cut corners.

Bonus points (nice to have)

  • Experience with gaming, XR/VR is desirable, but not a must.
  • Some professional experience working in an Agile product development environment. (If you just graduated from your master's or bachelor's, and want to grow with our organisation, we still want to hear from you)
