The Mechanisms of Chromatin Repair Lab at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, invites applications for an 18-month postdoctoral position, offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project on structural mechanisms of chromatin repair.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is an 18–month position staring 1 February 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

The position will focus on the biophysical and structural characterization of tumour suppressor proteins in the context of chromatin.

The postdoctoral candidate is expected to work with an international team, establish experimental designs, and provide biological insight into the mechanisms of chromatin recognition and repair.

The postdoc is expected to drive the project, including assisting in the supervision of undergraduate students. In addition, the postdoc is expected to keep record of the obtained data, as well as maintain rigorous documentation of experimental procedures, ensure data quality and reproducibility, and contribute to the writing of manuscripts and grant applications.

The successful candidate will also take part in regular group meetings and collaborate closely with internal and external partners to advance the project.

Your profile

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in biochemistry, structural biology or a related field, and has hands-on experience with cell culture, protein expression and purification. Experience with biophysical methods and cryo-EM sample preparation and data collection and processing is highly desired.

Strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively within the team, and proactive working style are essential. The candidate should be motivated, open to learning new techniques, and capable of driving their part of the project independently.

The postdoc will be affiliated to the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University and comprises research within the areas of Plant Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, RNA Biology and Innovation, Protein Science, Cellular Health, Intervention and Nutrition. There are currently 75 full time scientific staff and 95 PhD students. The department is responsible for two educations: Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine with a yearly uptake of 160 students in total.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
