The Role
 At Airwallet, we are revolutionizing the laundry industry by replacing outdated coin systems with modern digital payments. As we scale across Europe, the efficiency of our payment infrastructure becomes critical.

We are looking for an experienced 
Backend Engineer
 with deep domain knowledge in the payments ecosystem. You will take ownership of our transaction pipeline, ensuring it is engineered for maximum performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency. You won't just be integrating APIs; you will be architecting the logic that dictates how money moves through our system.

What you will build and solve
 Instead of just implementing payment flows, you will optimize them. You will work effectively with our Finance and Product teams to translate complex pricing structures into robust code.

  • Architecture & Optimization:
     Analyze and re-engineer our end-to-end payment flows (Card Present and Card Not Present) to ensure technical excellence and efficiency.
  • Data Integrity:
     Ensure our platform handles payment metadata (EMV tags, MCCs, terminal indicators) with absolute precision to comply with global standards.
  • Intelligent Routing:
     Build logic that dynamically handles transactions based on their characteristics (e.g., regional vs. international, scheme types).
  • Observability:
     Implement monitoring for transaction anomalies and routing efficiency to give us full transparency into our payment operations.

Who you are

  • You have a strong backend engineering background and write clean, maintainable TypeScript.
  • You "speak" payments: You understand the difference between Interchange++ and Blended rates, you know what happens under the hood when a card is tapped, and you understand the technical implications of SCA.
  • You are analytical: You can look at a dataset of transactions and identify patterns where engineering changes can improve performance or reduce overhead.
  • You are pragmatic: You understand that payment code handles real money and requires a mindset focused on safety, testing, and accuracy.
