Company Overview
Our client is a pioneering MedTech company on a mission to revolutionize the management of diabetes. They are at the forefront of developing a new wearable device based on photonics technology,, which would be a massive breakthrough in a space where billions have already been spent on similar concepts. Whilst we cannot give all the info here, we are happy to discuss the details further later on.
Backed by funding to give them enough runway they are entering a period where it is really about taking this product from concept to reality. The product does already work and have proven good results, but this is more about miniturization and creating a final design in the end.
Position Overview / Role Summary
Your position is that of a leader of a team of three people, two optical physicists and one engineer. It will involve leading the development projects related to this product. A big part will be to scout out the best technology that currently exist in order to miniaturize this medical device, meaning plenty of travel and meeting with external developers and manufacturers in the optical space.
This is not a traditional, linear project management role and you are getting more of a "carte blanche" in terms of actually finding the best solutions. The team is smart, dedicated and largely self-running but would need your guidance and leadership to tie it all together. So basically we are talking about a blend of deep technical expertise in optical physics, strategic technology scouting, and leadership to be successful.
Location
This position can be located in Denmark or remote in Europe. If remote, it would include more regular travel to be on-site in Denmark, but the job itself can largely be done remotely. Extensive travel will be required regardless though due to the nature of scoping out new technology and meeting with potential external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to a small, highly skilled team comprising an Engineer and two Optical Physicists.
- Define the strategy and roadmap for the technology miniaturization project, setting key milestones and deliverables to advance the concept.
Technology Scouting & External Partnerships:
- Proactively map the global technology landscape to identify cutting-edge solutions and potential breakthroughs in relevant components.
- Act as the primary driver for identifying, engaging, and cultivating strategic relationships with external partners, including technology suppliers, development firms, research institutions, and expert consultants. * Lead the evaluation and selection of external partners to accelerate the development process and de-risk the project.
Project Execution & Innovation:
- Oversee the project from its current conceptual stage toward a viable, proven concept ready for formal product development.
- Manage internal and external development budgets effectively. * Report on progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior leadership, including the Chief Science Officer and the Board of Directors. This position reports to the Chief Science Officer as things stand.
Qualifications & Experience
- A backround Optical Physics or a closely related field is essential to provide credible leadership and technical sparring for the team.
- Demonstrated experience managing early-stage, non-linear development projects at the concept or research phase. This can come from either smaller or larger companies.
- Experience in technology scouting, identifying, and managing external development partners and suppliers on a global scale.
- Demonstrating proactivity, energy and pragmatism, in order to both structure the work of the team, but also engage with many external stakeholders and finding solutions that work.
