The Department of Public Health at Faculty of Health, Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the field of psychiatric epidemiology and genetics as per 1 January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 3 years.
About the National Centre for Register-based Research
We are seeking a talented and highly motivated epidemiologist/biostatistician/geneticist to work on research related to the epidemiology of mental disorders, with a focus on eating disorders. The position will be based at the National Centre for Register-based Research, Department of Public Health, Aarhus University, a leading international research group investigating psychiatric epidemiology and statistical genetics. The centre has a strong track record in collaboration with other Danish researchers and with the international research community.
The position is funded by various external grants for research projects on the interplay of environmental and genetic factors for causes and courses of eating disorders.
Your job responsibilities
As an Assistant Professor, your primary tasks will be research, applications for funding, and research-based teaching. In your daily work, you will collaborate closely with both Danish and international colleagues.
Your main tasks will be:
- Independent research of high international quality, including publication
- Research collaboration
- Teaching and supervision of bachelor's and master's degree students, as well as PhD students
- Contribution to attracting external research funding
Your competences
You are a scientifically self-motivated and creative researcher with strong collaborative, communication, and presentation skills. We expect you to have some of the following qualifications:
- Background in data science, statistics, psychiatric epidemiology, or related fields, with a relevant PhD degree (required)
- Experience in psychiatric disorder research
- Experience with the analytic methods applied in epidemiology
- Computational expertise in analysing large health datasets, electronic health records, UK Biobank, All-of-Us, or similar sources
- Experience with programming in R, Python, C++, Stata, SAS, or other programming languages
As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.
We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.

Terms of employment
- Appointment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
- Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
- The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
- Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
- The yearly base salary for a fulltime assistant professor is between DKK ,84 and DKK ,20 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
- Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
