Financial Controller – Copenhagen
Salary:
€65,000 – €80,000 + package
A leading international construction contractor is seeking a
Financial Controller
to support the setup and ongoing financial management of its newly established Danish business unit. This is a key role offering long-term progression, autonomy, and the chance to help shape the financial operations of a growing European region.
The Role
You will be responsible for establishing and managing the full accounting function in Denmark. Working closely with the Group Finance team and local management, you will ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement of financial processes as the business expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and manage the accounting and reporting processes for the Danish entity
- Act as the main point of contact for all accounting and tax matters (including VAT, payroll, and withholding tax)
- Manage all accounting transactions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, and the general ledger
- Prepare annual financial statements in line with both UK GAAP and local Danish GAAP
- Lead on payroll reconciliation and ensure timely payments for taxation and statutory obligations
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain a clean and accurate ledger
- Produce monthly management accounts and group reports to strict deadlines
- Collaborate with the local COO and commercial team to understand project profitability and ensure correct cost allocations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and the production of board reports
- Manage intercompany reconciliations and cash flow forecasting
- As the business grows, recruit and develop a high-performing local finance team
About You
- Degree or master's qualification in accounting or finance (certified accountant preferred)
- Proven experience within the
construction industry - Experience building or leading a finance function, ideally in a start-up or growing international business
- Strong knowledge of
local GAAP
; UK GAAP and IFRS familiarity advantageous - Fluent in
English and Danish
(both written and spoken) - Advanced Excel and IT skills
- A proactive, hands-on individual with strong communication and leadership qualities
